A week ago, Erdogan went for youtube live, in an attempt to reach out generation Z, and he received 100K dislikes in an hour, breaking the youtube record (quickest video to reach 100K dislikes). also, his live video became the second most disliked video on YT (total dislikes). He then disabled the comments senction out of frustration. What a guy. And here is a good article.

What a flop. I mean this idea was an obvious failure even before he did it - does he even have a PR/ image consultant?

he probably has a guy assigned to do so but should be too afraid to tell him the truth. RTE doesn't accept how divisive he is in the country, thinks he is above the daily politics (he does use the exact phrase, in turkish) which is of course not the case.

Maybe he perceives himself as the saviour of the nation. That's much more dangerous than a regular corrupt politician.

Beyond horrible.
The Allah and Muhammad plates were already there tbf, placed in 1453. Some idiotic architectural decisions though, was quite an ugly sight. The Jesus and Mary mosaics being protected, but loads didn't wear maks and were side by side outside while praying. Scary scenes as we still have 900/920 cases a day.

The plates didn't disturb me, they are also part of the place history. The minarets are way uglier and more disruptive of the original architecture, should've been taken down. But now the mosaics aren't protected, they are hidden 🤦‍♂️

They were hidden between 1752 and 1934 too actually, not a brand new trend. Mosaics will be open to visitors except pray times, as I read. From 1453 to 1700s though, all mosaics were open to public while praying and visiting times, Mehmed the Conqueror was confident and relaxed about it. Shame that we are doing worse than him in that department. Little man with funny ambitions, Erdoğan.

This is where autocracy lead to - oppressing the citizens via total control over media including big social platforms like Facebook or Tweeter... This is really sad news.

No co-incidence that the article mentions Erdogan looking in the mirror and finding he is not loved, while back at the White House Trump is asking the mirror why everyone loves Fauci and nobody likes him.

Similar or not but the freedom of press is not in jeopardy in the US... I mean if the democracy is mature enough it will survive not only Trump but whoever but if it's weak or young or both ugly things can happen.

Some disturbing things are happening in the US.

Trump and Republican Senators like Ted Cruz and Josh Howley are pushing to control how social media companies moderate content, which seems unconstitutional.

Meanwhile in the universities and media institutions are increasingly purging anyone who shows insufficient solidarity with or deference to the new race-essentialist orthodoxy (what Wesley Yang calls "successor ideology", The New Orthodoxy).

The environment in which people get information is increasingly bifurcating. It's hard to see how things get better from here.

Well I think every rule is afraid of the power of the social media and of how little control they have over it - it’s because the information and the handle of it in the social media is in the hands of ordinary people. They’d rather have a bunch of regular media and journalists to manage than millions of users sharing information worldwide in real live time.
