Tsonga became the sixth player to reach his first ATP final in a Grand Slam in the Open Era (I didn't count the players who had started career before the Era):

1) Mark Edmondson (Australia) - Australian Open 1976 - winner
2) John Sadri (USA) - Australian Open 1979 - finalist
3) Steve Denton (USA) - Australian Open 1981 - finalist
4) Mikael Pernfors (Sweden) - Roland Garros 1986 - finalist
5) Gustavo Kuerten (Brazil) - Roland Garros 1997 - winner
6) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France) - Australian Open 2008 - ?

No wonder the Aussie and French Opens are the ugly stepsisters to Wimbledon and USO, they attract all the flukes. ;)

Damn. I've never played tennis before. Maybe I can contend for the US Open final.

This is quite a big story. I just hope he doesn't lose steam in the final

When was the last time a player made the top 20 with his ranking still consisting of points from a Futures event, I wonder...

Tsonga could go upto 18. Some say he is the incarnation of the young Mohammed Ali. The resemblance is that of identical twins. But the older, damaged self is still alive,if you can call it living. A mere shell of the once "Greatest".
