Well, I think that match against Saretta is a good sign for him. Saretta can be tough when he's on and for JMG to get a set from him was a good thing. I wonder about that doubles match though, as the loss allowed Goran to get into qualies for Carson on Saturday (just an hour's drive from the Calabasas site).

I'm hoping JMG gets a decent draw for Carson. He seems to play better when he has played more, so he could do some damage there.

Jan-Mike could not get a first serve in during a good portion of that singles match, but he did play very aggressive tennis and I was glad to see it. He's moving well too, and I think his leg pain may be gone once and for all.

He and Goran Dragicevic won the doubles title today, beating Cody Conley and Ryan Newport 6-4, 6-3. It was a pretty quick match, mainly because JMG was serving some SERIOUS BOMBS and those guys rarely got a racquet on them. Goran also had some very strong service games, and he has this wicked backhand volley that he can flick cross court in the blink of an eye. Very pleased for the two of them, and they are playing together in the Boston Challenger this week. Hopefully they will continue to do well there.

oh, and i really hope he can do well in the Champaign challenger. if he gets to the final, i'm thinking about making the 2.5 hour drive down there to see it. it would be only $5 for me to get in! i would love to see JMG v. Delic, or Andersen (though not likely) or Kendrick (also not likely).

so GOOOO BOYS! :)

Jan-Mike won first round, but then had a horrible loss against a german qualifer
what a wasted chance :( the draw was wide open
but it seems like he can win just one match; never two in a row
what is just wrong with him??

also awful loss in doubles

That German qualifier has won an NCAA title and has been playing pretty well lately. He is riding a lot of confidence. Jan-Mike, on the other hand, is not. I suspect that the 3 setter on Tuesday may have taken a little bit out of him, but he hung tough and got both sets to TB's, so he must have doing some things right in this match.

He hasn't put two together since he qualifed for Tokyo a few weeks back. I believe he will work through this.
