No idea how that decision got made, haha. I thought it'd be a LL. But the LL (Matosevic) got placed somewhere else and Mathieu got the bye...

Wrong.

When a player withdraws before the last qualifying match, all spots in the main draw are treated equally between Lucky Loser and Qualifier.

It is not guaranteed that Matosevic gets the Djokovic spots.
Don't worry, you always look bad to me.

And for the record, Mathieu is the player that got Djokovic's spot.;)

Because the withdrawal was out before qualifying was finished and main draw matches had started, so they are not going to change the draw and LL was not automatically put into the new spot. So qualifiers and LL were put into random draws for the openings and PHM being the lucky one here.

Thanks! :) Qualifying and main draw going at the same time complicated things too much for me, but I get it now.

you have to say that overall this draw was kind to the qualifiers.

toughest assigntment would be gabashvili playing isner

easiest assignment is definately giraldo. He should make quick work of hewitt on clay and, if his form holds and tsonga is still playing poorly than he should win that too

Yeah, I agree with you that this was overall a great draw for qualifiers. Several of them have a chance at a good run if things go their way (especially if injuries their opponents are carrying take their toll).

Well, Thiem has the worst odds to reach the third round, although he has the easiest first round match. Outside of Mathieu, of course.

Golubev of course,
Nico's awesome, but don't forget he was on crutches in his presser after his loss to Giraldo in Barcelona (he said he injured himself during MP and would have to wait and see how things went). It may have only been a precautionary measure, and he may be 100% fit now - I haven't heard any recent updates - but there could be a chance for Golubev.
