Below is my update of the top male players during the open era after all 2011 slams have been played. The first number is the end-2011 rank, in brackets the end-2010 rank, and in the end the career rank the players have in my Yokozuna-tennis rankings: Dai-Yokozuna (Great Grand Champion), Yokozuna (Grand Champion), Ozkei (Champion), Sekiwake (Junior Champion I), Komusubi (Junior Champion II). For more on this trace the link in my signature below.

Note: this list takes into account all players with major succeses during the open era, but then assesses a player's entire career - thus the high ranks for Laver, Rosewall, etc.. The list starts from a simple listing of GS achievemetns, but then makes amends for the strenght of tournaments during certain times of the open era (e.g., AO in the late 70s), versatility across surfaces, etc. No rocket science, of course, just an attempt to come up with a reasoanbly coherent ranking.

Players in bold signficantly improved their positions in 2011. These include:

- Rafael Nadal from 7 to 6, overtaking IvanL Lendl. Nadal also acquired Dai-Yokozuna title in 2011 by winning his 10th slam (RG)
- Novak Djokovic from 31 to 16, adding 3 GS titles to his one title at end-2010 and getting a promotion to Yokozuna
- Andy Murray from 50 to 43. 1 GS final, 3 semifinals. Without a title though there is not much more room for further progress. Became an Ozeki in 2011.
- Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from 77 to 66, following strong results at Wimbledon and the US Open
- Tomas Berdych from 81 to 77 (QF Australian Open)
- David Ferrer, who entered the top 101 for the first time after reaching the semis at the Australian Open.
