Well Tommy won his 1st Set 7-6, but he trailing in the 2nd Set 5 to 3. This is not good for Tommy already because it means he would have to play more Sets to win the Match!

Game 9 is being hard fought with a lot of 40-40 scores--one player will get the Advantage, but then it goes right back to 40 all. Finally you might know Tommy loses the Set 6-3! He fought hard in the game, but couldn't pull it out

Tommy did pull out the Match 7-6, 6-3, 6-0, and 7-5. But it took him 4 Sets to defeat a Q. in the 1st Round

Good to see him win that match. It's just so unlucky that it's Rafa now

Rafa had strapping or something on his knee and, of course, here we all know about Tommy injuries. Tennis just must be a very demanding sport because there is no player to player contact involved like in American Football. But the injuries seem to pile up as much anyway

Tommy out in straight Sets against Rafa. Not unexpected at all. The commentators said they thought it would be the last time we would see Tommy at the A.O. And after the Match Tommy took his shirt off and threw in into the crowd. Which did seem like a farewell gesture to me

I only watched the very end of it but I'm happy that he at least put up a fight.

Hi all !!! just gonna copy my previous post from tennis forum, too lazy to write smth new :p

I was very pleased with Tommy's performance against Nadal. I have to be realistic, and this time I couldn't have picked Tommy to win :p considering the situation.
He tried to prepare and build up for AO in Brisbane but again lousy injury occurred, and this time calf pfff. Now that's just not good enough when you have Nadal in 2nd Rn of Australian Open.

But despite his loss, I'm very happy to see him at his best, more importantly to see him 100% fit and healthy.
He started badly, but it didn't take while before he started to play really well, just as I wanted- aggressive.

Bottom line, he gave Nadal a headache and great match IMO, and if he continues to play like he did, I think Tommy is fully prepared to give us great matches and results this year!

hi Mae, long time no see :)

nah, throwing shirt into the crowd doesn't worries me, I'm more curious about that 'long' conversation with Nadal on the net. :p

Now, Tommy realize, just as we should as well, that this could be his last AO(hence his stepping back on court and crowd salute after the match)
If his injuries keeps occurring, he really has to consider retiring. Of course my fingers are crossed for him to stay healthy and we might see him on several more AO's ;)

Nice to see you again also :) And, of course, I hope the injuries don't keep occurring

According to his homepage, he will now play the whole usa spring tour!
Well good for Tommy :woohoo: He was obviously not suffering from any problems in the Match against Nadal. And I agree that for all his time out due to health issues he did not play badly at all against Nadal. In fact at times I could see flashes of the Tommy from years ago!

I thought Tommy had decided not to play any more Davis Cup? But I guess he could always change his mind
