Teenager Bernard Tomic will lead Australia’s Davis Cup team against South Korea in April in the absence of Lleyton Hewitt.

The two sides meet in Brisbane between on the first weekend of the month with the Australians knowing that victory will put them into a play off to return elite World Group in 2013.

19-year-old Tomic is currently ranked at number 37 in the world and is seen as one of the most promising players to come through in recent years. However, he’s had a difficult year in 2012 but did manage to make it to the last 16 of the Australian Open where he eventually fell to Roger Federer.

Hewitt is currently out of action after undergoing surgery on his left big toe and is not due to return to the court until the Queen’s Club tournament in June.
This means that either world number 78 Matt Ebden or world number 122 Marinko Matosevic will have to step up in the singles after being named in captain Pat Rafter’s five-man squad for the tie alongside doubles players Chris Guccione and young Queenslander Ben Mitchell.

It appears that Ebden could be given the nod for the second singles berth but Rafter says he won’t make a decision until next week as both players are currently in good form.

“Matt's achieved some of the best wins of his career in the past couple of weeks and this tie in Brisbane, where he's already enjoyed some success, is his chance to really step up and take responsibility as a key member of the team,'' Rafter said.

‘'It was great to see Marinko go all the way through to the final in Delray Beach a couple of weeks ago, he's continuing to improve and has great potential” Rafter added

Those wishing to capitalise on tennis betting offers should take note of these developments.
