Can't disagree with that 1st sentence - he's just far from a smart player, sadly. Set point on serve, had a good serve and then an open court to pressure/finish off the set and he dropshots (as often, very poorly) while leaving out the whole down the line side open for Rune to strike. Then he gave away few more points with dropshotting (just stop with it!) in his 1st serve game of the 2nd set and that was it.
Hamad's backhand is also mostly a liability (because of a strange motion that gets rushed on this level), Rune was often targeting it during rallies and the serves. I think Hamad ended up with 3 winners and 20 unforced errors from that wing alone.
