Nasty fall in 1st set but at least no problem for Carlitos. Baez was really sad in 2nd set.

Looked like the injury might have been more to the L lower shin than the actual ankle area? Had a MTO and lots of taping. He definitely wasn't moving as well after the injury, particularly to the BH side. Noticeably slower and more tentative in his movement and looked very subdued by his standards. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls out, which would be a real shame for the tournament and for Japanese fans (especially after the withdrawals from Shelton and Draper, and Fils being unable to defend his title due to injury).

Now that Skinner can't vulture No.1 (unless he negotiates a rule change with the new ATP CEO to award points for the 6 Kings Slam), Alca should withdraw to ensure full health for bigger events.
Alcaraz should withdraw whenever he knows Fritz is his next opponent to avoid being schooled and routined like at the Laver Cup.

Hmm... I wonder what that was about... A weird one. Given that he said the physio did some tests and those were fine/painfree.

Figured it would be just a matter of time until the wheels fall off. That dude does almost as much running around, slipping and sliding as Nadal did. I'll be shocked if he makes it to 26-27 and healthy and moving well on court. Nadal was a rare breed but even he took off half the season most of the time which extended his longevity and his clay dominance helped him get 22

Tbh, it seemed serious when he fell to the ground and then had concerning grimaces when sat there for a few minutes. Shouldn't be anything serious, but any more match could worsen it for him. Hope it won't be the case here.
I looked at the incident again and apparently it's a very quick and brief ankle roll when he tried to switch direction and push towards the drop volley. I didn't catch it at first even from the slomo, but after another look I caught it. Hopefully nothing severe. At least it didn't look that bad, but still some sort of a sprain.

I will pray he is fine but he really needs to schedule better. He is overplaying and might cost him dearly. Shanghai/Paris/Turin should be enough after USO. Maybe DC in some years if needed but that's it.
