Nishikori will get in as first alternate after one player withdraws -- he almost certainly won't need a wildcard.

That's true. In this way, the organisers will save all wildcards for four other players. Japanese players most likely.

Last year the four wildcards were Japanese too. However, Ferrer had not signed up and was a very late addition to the field because of some obscure ATP rule that allows a late replacement if a top player withdraws at the last minute (I think it was Federer). Ferrer went on to win the tournament.

Not great list as it used to be few years ago, but still very , very good.
It would be great for tournament if Kei wins at least two rounds here.
