Ivos in the quarters of ATP Munich after a hardfought victory over Bjorn Phau. :) ... UP NEXT JURGEN MELZER (boo!)

"For a spot in his second semifinal of the season [Jurgen Melzer] will take on Ivo Karlovic, who continued his solid clay court performance by defeating home crowd favorite Bjorn Phau 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(8) in two hours, 17 minutes. The Croat, who has played 27 tie-breaks this season (12-15 record), has played at least one tie-break in 10 of his last 12 matches. In today's match Phau won three more points than Karlovic (102 - 99).

The hard-hitting Croat served one of his 21 aces when down match point in the third set tie-break. With the win, Karlovic reached the quarterfinals of an ATP clay court event for the second time this season. Last week in Barcelona he defeated Max Mirnyi, Nikolay Davydenko and Evgeny Korolev en route to a quarterfinal appearance (l. Wawrinka). In 2005 the Croat went 0-6 on the European clay court season. This win means Ivo has made the quarters (or better) in 5 tournies so far this year! :) and is 20-12 in singles (incs Qualifiers and Challengers) :)TOP 50 HERE HE COMES!!!! :bounce:

In other Ivo news, he and Chris Haggard lost in the Quarters of the doubles. Bjorn Phau (with Alexander Peya of Austria) reeked his revenge for the loss in the singles earlier in the day winning 64 76(3). Still it means Ivo has been quarterfinalist (at least) in 5 of 6 doubles tourneys so far this year and has an 11-5 doubles record for 2006.
