Both of them Reached and lost FO Final, Both of them won a match on clay vs Nadal.

Who do you think is the best clay courter in terms of skills, not achievements?

I Think Coria has better point construcution and Tennis IQ than Thiem. He has a better hand and touch to make drop shots. He can play flat and close down the lines from both sides.

On the other hand, Thiem has more power and spin than him and a way better serve than Coria.

Coria takes the ball very early but lacks power when he has to generate his own injection of pace.

Discuss..

You can't really compare Thiem with Coria at this moment. Coria is a more accomplished clay player. They used to call him 'the king of clay' back in 2003/2005. He was silly enough to lose that RG final against Gaudio when he had a couple of MP etc.

My only problem with Coria is that he was doping. He was suspended from the tour. Well, it's hard to say who was doing what at that time btw. I think it was nandralone or something. Can't remember. I'm not so sure that Gaudio was clean either. It's hard to say. Mods, these are not doping allegations. Both players are retired and everything is in the tennis history books

There is nothing to compare really. Thiem just lost a match he wasn't supposed to. Thiem has a long time to go.

It's kinda mixed up. Coria was super fast on the court.

I really enjoyed Coria's clay play and I followed him even with his documented problem. I also now follow Thiem. However, Thiem is just not a consistent player and sadly I don't know if he ever will be?

Coria was a classic claycourter in terms of tactics and skills. Not the greatest nerves.
Thiem has a better arsenal to succeed on all surfaces, including clay. But he plays without tactics or brains.

Coria and it's not even close. Plus, he was finished at 23. Thiem is almost 26 and has not demonstrated anything close to the ability of Coria, who really was masterful.

Ok, there is nothing to compare between Coria and Thiem, I totally agree, different times, completely different game, etc.. but how can you claim that Gaston Gaudio was maybe not clean ? This is a serious accusation, and unrespectful about the guy, if you start like this you could suspect many guys on the tour. Gaudio was very talented, a clay court player only basically but was not a beast to work, and fragile mentally. According to me, he underachieved but was paradoxically lucky enough to win RG

You cannot compare specialists of previous eras to all surface players of the homogenization eras. Very few specialists existed in the last 14 years. Coria was an accomplished clay courter with definitive clay skills. Thiem is a product of modern diet and training like his peers. Not exactly a clay specialist.

What a terrible post. Gaudio was superb during RG 2004. The win was legit and clean, where do you get the idea that he was doping?

I concur. Unnecessary slander and defamation of character. But thank you for your opinion.
