"I beat three top 100 players in three days here for the first time ever. And now I get the coolest reward ever: playing Stan Wawrinka, the number one in the ATP race. Against the best player of the year on a big court - can you imagine anything better?:) Please keep your fingers crossed for me, maybe I can cause him a little trouble. ;)Bamos!"

Awwww, that's lovely! I was already looking forward to this match, but now I especially am. :) If they're both on, the tennis is gonna be tasty.

Dominic is an incredibly humble guy, he basically says its an honor to play against any established pro. He was talking up Tursunov and Matosevic before his matches with them too, so it isn't anything particular to Wawrinka.

I look forward to the match - two entertaining guys going at it in R2, not often does that come about in a masters 1000.

Dominic is the 2014 Goffin. Fawning over a swiss player...
I love it when the younger guys are a bit starstruck over the older guys. :) Pospisil was talking about it just today in the ATP's "The Last Time..." series:

[The last time...] I met a childhood idol?
"It was Roger Federer. I met him, played against him at the Rogers Cup in 2011. I didn’t ask for an autograph, I was just happy enough that he beat me because I always hated it when he lost back then [laughing]! Things have changed a bit now!"

 You never heard this from Djokovic or Murray when they were 20 years old. No, from Djokovic you heard things like "Nadal on clay is not unbeatable", and "I was in control of the match". Murray was beating Mugerer back in 2006. That's the problem with young players these days. No belief or will to win.

I think you can have belief and will to win while still having respect for the guys who've proven themselves over the years. You can respect the heck out of a guy and still want to hand him his rear end on the court (and believe that you have the ability to do that). In fact, it might even say that you have a *higher* confidence in yourself, if you're saying "I respect this guy, he's awesome, and I enjoy the opportunity to pit my skills against the best players in the game," rather than, "Heck, this guy isn't that great, he's totally overrated, I'm gonna take him out".

(If you couldn't tell, I personally like it better when there's respect going around than when there's Tomic-like bravado being sprayed everywhere.)

I'm sorry but when has respect ever made a champion tennis player? Borg, McEnroe, Connors and Lendl. Not the most respectful guys out there. Sampras-Agassi. Two hated each other's guts. Federer, Djokovic, and Murray--the three aren't the best of friends on tour, not even on the court. Djokovic and Murray stopped being friends after Murray won the Olympics. The only two players that respect each other in public are Federer and Nadal, and look where that's gotten Federer. On the court Federer shows no guts or fighting spirit, simply because he is too respectful of Nadal's ability. Nadal may be the only player in tennis history that beats out his rival merely on the basis of his interactions with that rival outside of the court.

Face it, respect gets you nowhere.

Aye, verbalizing his goal was MinioNole's important first baby step on his march to the top. Results followed.

Likewise, it's great to see Tomic believing in the power of the spoken word by declaring his intention to be #1.

Diferentes estilos para diferentes personas

GOATbis takes a more Machiavellian approach out of the FedRodduck playbook in order to bring potential rivals down a few levels through
media mockings, sarcastic comments, libel, and if those don't work, eventual locker room assaults.

Milos was typically Canadian (humble and polite) when he said he "dreamed" of making it to the top.

Fortunately it's hard to criticize our hockey players for being rabid & rude when they're allowed to fistfight. Tennis demands more gentlemanly conduct and encourages compliments of opponents' shots: "why I say William, your smash is simply smashing today...here, here." IF you act this way, you'll get a stefan edberg award no doubt.

Of course, One-handed Backhand porn is the best porn ever. So no wonder he considers this match as "cool". I think he could have gone further and say "it is orgasmic". (I blame it on timidty and unexperience)

A 20 years old up-and-comer is excited that he finally gets to play world's best players and people are trying to put negative spin on it?

Nah Dominic, what will be cool is when you dish out a ruthless beatdown on the overrated one and send the bandwagon crashing.

He was schooled/thumped by Murray in Amsterdam.

That should be the highlight of Thiem's year, not playing a man who has won 7 titles at nearly 30.
