The US Open and the The New York Mets

Well it's almost that time of year again that the New York Mets and the ATP/WTA tennis community play their respective sports right next door to one another in Flushing on August 30, 31, and September 1. And for the first time in 5 years, the US Open comes right in the middle of a Mets playoff chase.

All the New York Mets have to do is not embarass themselves on the road next week to have Flushing be the place for big sports.

So what event will draw more people next week, Week 1 of the US Open, or the New York Mets when they play the Philadelphia Phillies at Shea Stadium on August 30, 31, and September 1?

i have no clue who the NY mets are or what they
All I can say is: Lots of traffic!!

What's the capacity of Shea Stadium?
The US Open always draws more people, no?

They are a Major League Baseball team right next to the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing. They are right in the middle of a playoff chase and for the 1st time in 5 years, when the Mets last went to the World Series against the New York Yankees.
In order to beat a whole first week attendence of the US Open with just three baseball home games, the Shea Stadium would most likely require a capacity of 100.000 or even more and all games would need to be sold out.

No chance, US Open 1st week would win easily.

US Open 1st week would beat the three home games at Shea Stadium by something like (in the high) 3xx.xxx to 1xx.xxx

55,601 people.

With them in the middle of a playoff chase for the 1st time in 5 years, the 3 games they'll have during the 1st week of the US Open could very well be sellouts and possibly draw 166,803 people for the 3 games set against the Phillies.

Sure the US Open overall will draw more people, but i'm pitting the first week of the open up against the New York Mets.

Understandable since you don't follow baseball. You prefer the green and white ball and racket to the white and red stitched ball and a wooden bat.
I think it's exciting when there's a big baseball game going on the same time as the USO. I like the blimp shots then. :)

 definately
Mets won't make the playoffs
Yeah, but it won't matter because the USO will be over by then anyway. :)
I'm gonna update after every New York Met game this week. With the win tonight over the Arizona Diamondbacks, they are 6 games away from making next week in Flushing, Queens the place to be in the American Sports.

And for someone like me who loves the Mets in a playoff race and the US Open, i would want to see both in one day if i had the money to pay for it.

me neither
so i voted for the USOpen
Do the Mets even have any fans anymore? ;) Seriously, I'm curious as to when the last time Shea was sold out.

It will make parking a bitch.

GO Yanks.

When Pedro was pitching against the Yanks.

Speaking of which, Pedro's name was mentioned in the latest TENNIS magazine when they were doing the US Open guide.

From the latest TENNIS magazine.

"Parking will be much tighter for the US Open now that Pedro Martinez in New York's favorite son"

The first 2 games of the Phillie series are nighttime. Pedro pitches one of those games so the night session won't have much fans in the tennis courts

In the day game, Shea parking won't be open until 4 PM. Tennis fans would have to park in Corona.

BTW, the Mets have kicked the DBacks ass tonight 14-1, so they inch closer to a playoff spot and closer to sports bedlam in Flushing, Queens next week.

Boo. Hiss.

But I still think the USO will outdraw the Mets. I'm hoping I'll get to attend both. :bigclap:
