Swiss Davis-Cup-Team wants to win for late Peter Carter.
Harmonie in Casablanca
from Cécile Klotzbach from Morocco
CASABLANCA - "The Davis-Cup is always something special" says Teamboss Peter Lundgren who arrived yesterday evening. As a matter of fact: feel the fight and team spirit.
And that count's more than the ranking or the head to head of the players. The tennis individuals are playing as a nationalteam for their country - which can upbring unknown forces.
Since Roger Federer, Marc Rosset, Michel Kratochvil, George Bastel and Ivo Heuberger have arrived in Morocco on Saturday, they are an item. At breakfast, in the hotel lobby, at the training, in the restaurant. Only on thuesday evening they went seperat ways for a few hours, when the local spirit turned to national solidarity. Federer from Basel had the opportunetie , to see FC Basel winning - which wasn't of much interrest for Rosset from Geneva.
"That's been the highlight of the week. I would have never thought that I can see the game on TV in Morocco." said Roger yesterday enthusiasticaly. A Swiss living in Casablanca who's a friend of Davis-Cup-Team-Delegue Erik Keller made this possible.
The athmosphere in the swiss team is hot. And the joy was huge when Lundgren arrived in Casablanca yesterday afternoon too. Finally the conspicuous harmonic team is complete! Lundgren spent the last days at home in Sweden with his daughter Julia (6) who all of a sudden suffered from diabetes. The situation is stable and the swede seams to be positive.
Together they want to sceare off the morocco team from tomorrow on - so they'll stay in the worldgroup. "We are going to show what we can and give everything - for us and for Switzerland." says a positiv Kratochvil, who feels "topfit".
Pretty emotional: The team whants to continue the work of Davis-Cup-Captain Peter Carter who died August first, with success.
Lundgren, who's only taking over the role from Carter for this encounter, speaks out of the heart for all players, when he says. "We can do it. For Peter."
