The new version of Top Spin - PlayStation is released. The two Big Stars of tennis - Roger Federer & Maria Sharapova will present it.

Roger Federer, the reigning Wimbledon champion and #1 ranked men’s player and Maria Sharapova, the #2 ranked women’s tennis player in the world will be the official spokespersons and cover athletes for Top Spin on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.

“We’re thrilled to have two of the most exciting tennis players representing our game,” stated Erik Whiteford, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “Roger Federer is by far the most talented and dominant men’s tennis player in the game today. Maria Sharapova’s power, competitive drive and tenacity have established her as one of the most important and visible players on the women’s tour. Both players exhibit the winning attitude of great tennis champions, making them a natural choice to represent the best tennis video game.”

Roger Federer is widely regarded as one of the most dominant men’s players in the history of professional tennis having just won his third straight Wimbledon Championship. As the current number one player on the men’s tour, Federer succeeded in winning three out of the four Grand Slams in 2004 – The Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open. At age 23, most experts believe Federer has only begun his tennis dominance.

“I am honored to be chosen as the cover athlete for Top Spin,” said Roger Federer. “The game does an excellent job of capturing the intensity of tennis and combines that with incredible visuals. Simply put, fans are in for a treat as 2K Sports has done an excellent job delivering the best and most realistic tennis game.”

Top Spin for the PlayStation®2 comes ready to serve up the best tennis experience anywhere. Gamers will be able to select 16 of the top male and female players including Roger Federer, Lleyton Hewitt, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams, and many more. Top-notch visuals, intuitive controls, and new features including online play finally bring the best tennis experience to PlayStation®2 gamers. Top Spin for PlayStation®2 will be released in late summer 2005.

Virtua Tennis has pro tennis players in it. It's a really good game. Haas, Moya, Sampras and some more are in it.
Andre Agassi has his own tennisgame but I believe he was the only 'real' player in it.
And there's a Roland Garros tennisgame. I know on the front of the game is a picture of Kuerten...

I played all these games.. I know Im an addict  haha, out of these i recommend Virtua Tennis! It's really good! My brother likes it even better than Top Spin. Not me tho ;)

:haha: Most realistic tennis game. This game is about as far away as realistic as you can get. I doubt I'll waste my $ on buying this game for Federer, Sharapova and Venus as new players in the game. It's FULL of flaws, doesn't play anything like real tennis and is boring to play even vs friends (the only time it's fun is when you play doubles on hard mode vs Hingis/Hingis on clay). Anyways for anyone who's looking for a good REAL tennis game, Smash Court 2 for the PS2 is your best bet, the most realistic tennis game there is and prob will be for a while. It actually involves timing and if you can get a hold of a friend/sibling who's at your level in this game, you can have incredible hard fought battles and have loads of fun.

why not on the xbox online this is sooo cool
They're saving the new edition of Top Spin for the xbox 360. Top Spin 2 for the 360 will have a whole new cast of players (Federer, Roddick, Haas, Venus, Sharapova, to name a few). I forgot who exactly is going to be featured in this game, but they have 16 males and 16 femals in it, a much better roster that the Top Spin for the PS2 but both will likely play the same however.

Smash Court Tennis 2 is excellent. But It lacks the angles and volleys that Top Spin has. Top Spin's main flaws are the fact that the career mode is too short. It wish it had licenses to real tournaments. And there are some hiccups only found on the mens side when approaching the net. Time and time again when playing the mens side, I have approached the net to put away a volley. Only to have the character make some lame between the leg shot instead. Top Spin also needs to get rid of the defensive dive, cause there is no way to recover from that play. Also the game is very predictable. The CPU hits the ball into the open court time and time again. And once you learn to anticipate tha you can win too easily.So in a perfect world. The perfect tennis game would have;
1. Top Spin's angles
2. Smash Courts top spin shot
3. Smash Courts Ranking/calendar year
4. Character motion of Smash Court players
5. Top Spin's slice
6. Top Spin's Serving
7. Top Spin's create a character technology.
These are to me the ingredients to making the perfect 3 dimensional Tennis game.

The best tennis game ever still remains the Game Boy Color's, "Snoopy Tennis".
Following closely behind is the Super Nintendo's, "Super Tennis"

I just played Topspin for X-Box for the first time all this week during vacation and I had a great time. With the variety in spins, players, stadiums, etc. it was definitely the best tennis game I have ever played. All I need to do now is learn to master the risk shots (using the "r button") for groundstrokes. I can already pretty mucb beat all my friends using standard groundstrokes.

Sega's a good developer. Their games usually have better graphics than most others. It's a shame they haven't said anything about a Virtua Tennis 3. I'm sure the graphics will be a lot better than Smash Court Tennis or Top Spin games.

I play a lot of tennis games, this are the bests for me:

1. Super Tennis (the Japanese Version, but it is in english :D) with real players (with their name changed, like Wagasi = Agassi, Vichy = Vilas, others are Mc Enroe, Lendl, Becker, Chang, Sampras, etc. Also in career you have others that can't be chosen like Krajicek, Connors. Totally rox, you should all download it and start to play it online with ZSNES emulator xD
2. Virtua Tennis 2 (excellent game! I just played it on Arcades).
3. Top Spin 1

I never played smash court :S
