Welcome to The MTF Best Song Game #4!
Theme: 1970s
*An original idea by sfar
** Theme selected by Firebird

Anyone can participate.

VOTING FOR THE FINAL TILL SUNDAY 10 pm CET

How to play?
Phase I: Commit to the game by sending me a YouTube link of your song via PM.
After this phase, I will give a list of songs and players, without revealing which songs was selected by whom.
Phase II: Vote for your favourite songs by PM.
<29 songs: Direct Final.
30-40 songs: 2 Semi-Finals followed by a Final containing the 20 songs with the most points.
After (each part of) this phase, I will reveal the votes, the points tally, and the player behind each song. After the SF, only the eliminated songs will be revealed.

The song with the most points wins!

Rules:
0. Your song must follow the theme of the game. For Game #4: 1970s includes any song that was released between 1st Jan 1970 and 31st Dec 1979.
1. You have to vote for exactly 10 songs, in order of preference. Your voted songs will receive points in the following format (inspired by the Eurovision system):
Code:
12 points: favourite song
10 points: 2nd favourite song
08 points: 3rd favourite song
07 points: 4th favourite song
06 points: ...
05 points: ...
04 points: ...
03 points: ...
02 points: ...
01 points: 10th favourite song
2. You can not vote for your own song.
3. You can not send a song selected in a previous game. One of the purposes of this game is to discover new music. For a list of these previously selected songs, see Post #3. The same song by a different artist/band is allowed.
4. Only committed players can vote. Eliminated semifinalist can also vote in the Final.
5. If you do not vote, your song will receive a 12 point penalty (in the part of phase II which you did not vote).
6. If the same song(including artist/band) is sent by 2+ different players, the 2nd+ player to send will be asked to chose another one.
7. You can not change votes or your song once they have been sent.
8. If the manager is playing the game, he/she will have to send his votes to another player.

There will be a musically themed interview via PM, which will be revealed after the Final.

The theme of the next game will be selected by the winner. (No theme is also allowed)

Strategies are welcome. All forms of drama including but not limited to insulting, fighting, bickering, bitching, vSlapping, vPunching, repping, and selling your soul to the devil manager for votes is strongly encouraged.

Re: The MTF Best Song Game #4 | Theme: the 1970s songs

Unlike the first three games, there is much lesser chance for me to discover something new in this game. Guess I'm not a big fan of the decades theme. Especially the 70's has an incredible amount of extremely popular music to chose from. Expect a LOT of big artists/bands.

Yet, IN!

There are many equally vote-whory songs in the 70s. Stairway to heaven, Imagine, Hotel California come to mind. In general, way too much classic rock tardism is up for grabs.

appeal for improving the song game

the main joy of this game is to discover new/unknown
(and of course appealing) songs, isnt it?

but by giving points to old classics you have heard a 1000 times before (such as "Man who sold the world" or "Wish you were here") you devalue the game
as people will continue (or even expedite) to submit that kind of songs if they are rewarded for it.

it makes little sense to blame the persons who do so (as everybody wants to win of course), but the ones who vote it! :smash:
thats dull and amateurish behaviour for a jury and low level attitude. :baby:

how to make it better?
even when you give "only" 6 or 7 points to those well-known entries, it accumulates and the song might finish high.
thats why the best formula is to give ZERO points to entries you already know all over. simple.

(in case you know all songs - of the 70th f.i. - you cant comply with that, but all others can and that suffices.
more likely is that its very possible to submit songs - also from the 70th - that are not so classically well-known.)

...i'm saying this cause i would like to light on new and exciting tracks also in the future
and participants who always submit original entries (Sauletekis f.i.) to go on with that (and not go down the drain).

should things not change for the better, should you not succeed in entertaining me anymore, i will leave this place and resort to GM.
...i'm serious!

Agreed, but each person has its own willing, so we cannot judge on them if they want to send massive known songs. For sure I will do my part on giving them less points than I would probably give. Only if the songs I don't know are terrible, lol.

Anyway, in this particular theme it may be harder to not send very well known songs, because very few of us (if not any) were borned listening to these songs, so what we usually know are the classics, and the classics... well... they are universally known.

But tottally agreed and understand what you are saying :worship:

Theme could have been more creative imo. Also, everyone knows the 80's are the best music decade. ;)

fair points...but what if my 'rare' song doesn't appeal to you, would you vote for it just because it's not mainstream?
