This is a little late to be topical, but I've been meaning to post and I forgot.

Basically, I think it was during the Scoville/Nadal match, the commentator asked Andy Murray if he felt that the players on the tour were beginning to respect him as a player.

Murray's response, which he had mentioned in an interview the week or so before, was that he felt he had to get better to get any respect at all from the other players. Not just as a player, but as a fellow person in the locker rooms.

Now this conjured up images for me of the top 30 or 50 or so having this kind of code of honour concerning the new up & coming players, that they are given a hard time til they prove themselves. Or are not treated the same as fellow ranking players.

I could just have maybe taken Murray's words out of context, but it did seem to me that he was emphasising that he didnt get (any) respect in the locker rooms from the higher ups.

Of course, there are alternate explanations-

-Murray may act like a moody, arrogant nob in the locker rooms, and that's why no one talks to him.
-It's just simply all in his head.
-When the thought came upon him he was in the locker room with a bunch of players who speak as much english as JCF.
-Murray has a very demanding definition of respect.

And so on, but anyway, does anyone have any insight or opinion on this. It quite surprised me to think of the locker rooms like this- a stoic place, where you have to earn a hello, or respect in general.

Was this the same on-air appearance where Murray said Scoville sucked and basically had no game? Comments like that will get him a lot of respect in the locker room, I'm sure.

Let me see if I have this right....Murray is feeling disrespected and "dishonored". Ok...
The men's locker room "code of honor" is basically "hazing". You prove yourself, you move up in the ranks. You don't, you get left behind. That simple.

Hey fonsie, do you think they have to bow to Hewitt in the lockeroom? ;)
Of course  Everytime he enters a voice says "drop your soap bars" and everyone bents over. He always chooses Roger  That's the real locker room honor code :worship:

If ever there was a misrepresentation of what someone said.........

Did you actually hear what he said?

Murray was very complimentary of Scoville and said how hard he trained, what a good player he was etc etc At one point after yet another poor volley he said something about Scoville's volleying skills. Pointing out one flaw in amongst a lot of praise is hardly saying he sucked or that he had no game.

As to the original question, Andy Murray has done nothing yet. In order to earn the respect of players in the top 50 he needs to win matches.

I'm sure many of them will have noticed him. Perhaps because of his US Open juniors title or Wimbledon but why should they respect him?

Get inside the top 30, the top 20, a few decent tournaments and I'm sure a player will have earned the respect of the locker room. One win, or one great tournament is rarely enough.

No, I didn't hear what he said, that's why I asked the question.
