Thanks for these! So nice when players finally manage to win having lost a few times in the final, like Ivanisevic in Wimbledon and Fed at the FO... of these the only one who might be able to win would be Rafa in Miami, probably.

gaudio was close... he should have beaten franco.
Good thread by the way, something a bit different. He so wanted the Mercedes, when he lost to Cañas, he said he want to steal it next time.

I'll also add DC finals performances.

Argentina in DC:

1981: vs. USA (local) - Surface: carpet indoors
Tie 1: McEnroe d. Vilas 6-3, 6-2, 6-2
Tie 2: Clerc d. Tanner 7-5, 6-3, 8-6
Tie 3: Fleming/McEnroe d. Clerc/Vilas 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9
Tie 4: McEnroe d. Clerc 7-5 5-7 6-3 3-6 6-3

This must have been one hell of a final. I remember that last year Clerc -now ESPN commentator for LA- said that McEnroe was the one player he seriously couldn't stand. For the record, McEnroe and the USA team had their revenge against Vilas and Clerc after losing in Buenos Aires the year before http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6CIttvDOA8

2006: vs. Russia (local) - Surface: carpet indoors
Tie 1: Davydenko d. Chela 6-1, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4
Tie 2: Nalbandian d Safin 6-4, 6-4, 6-4
Tie 3: Safin/Tursunov d. Calleri/Nalbandian 6-2, 6-3, 6-4
Tie 4: Nalbandian d. Davydenko: 6-2, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4
Tie 5: Safin d. Acasuso: 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5)

2008: vs. Spain (visit) - Surface: Hard (Acrylic) indoors
Tie 1: Nalbandian d. Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3
Tie 2: F. López d. Del Potro: 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(4), 6-3
Tie 3: Verdasco d. Acasuso: 6-3, 6-7(3), 4-6, 6-3, 6-1
