Its like night and day. Its amazing how much tennis has declined from other sports. This aint even CLOSE in skill level or talent. And its a 24 year difference. With two guys that are superior playing with dinosaur rackets and 2 guys that should have the advantage (both physical and technological) playing with bazookas

not completely, but I see your point.

if you aren’t a top-notch athlete you can’t make it as a pro.

The game’s physicality has taken over its beauty.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we switched back to the amateur era. Imagine if we stopped paying players proportionally to their wins, and offered a mere expense reimbursement and maybe an equal basic stipend so they don’t have to necessarily have another job. But imagine making this a job where they don’t earn more if they win.

Would they still be willing to spend hours in the gym? Would this bring beauty back? Just playing for the sheer pleasure of it?

Please tell me, what is this thread about?
I remember (from writings I found on an ancient water buffalo skin,) that my famous ancestor
"Nate-the-Knuckle-Dragger," was a prime example of an all around player. You should have
seen him in action. If he was loosing, he had the good sense to open the back gate, and let
the wild herd of water buffalos trample his dumb opponent. How modern can that be, I ask?
