The 2007 Tennis Tipping Fact of the Year
This poll is to determine which was the TT fact of 2007. Only TT players can vote.
Here are the nominees:
Six newcomers on top 30
A lot of new players joined Tennis Tipping in 2007, but there's a group which deserves a mention on this poll. Six newcomers (angela, Gutturnio DOC, propaganda, sploush, Tytta!., Wolves68) reached the top 30 in their first complete season.
Tytta!./Deboogle's LL run in IW & Miami
If you lose in the final round of the qualifying tournament, it doesn't mean the tournament is over for you. Tytta!./Deboogle could not make IW's and Miami's MD throught qualies, but it didn't prevent them from having a fantastic run in both tournaments. Two finals and one title as Lucky Losers! Should we call it luck or skill?
The bans of Karim_Vlasic, locoxcanas and diego36arg
Things aren't always great in TT. This year was also marked by cheating attemps. Karim_Vlasic, locoxcanas and diego36arg were using multiple accounts to play the game. Their fun came to an end with a 2-year ban.
Singapore vs Serbia DC final
Germany? France? Finland? Brazil? Great Britain? Australia? Nope. The Davis Cup title was decided by two smaller nations: Serbia (winner) and Singapore.
After silverwhite's retirement, few people would think Singapore would have a chance to go far in this long competition, and Serbia was not even among the 16 best ranked nations. But savestheday91, Grofica, balloon and Buddy proved everyone wrong.
Finland, Hungary, USA and Argentina to play Group II in 2008
Congrats to Serbia and Singapore! But what about the big nations? If not on the top, where are Finland, Hungary, USA and Argentina? Not in the World Group. Yes, Labamba, Smasher, coreyschuky, qczi, Aleksz, GustavoM_Fan and other top tippers will play the Davis Cup Group II in 2008.
scarecrows' #1 and retirement
silverwhite was one of the best doubles players of 2006, but he did not come back to play the 2007 season. The same thing will happen this year. scarecrows, the #1 doubles player of 2007, announced his retirement. The Albanian ends his career with a 58-52 singles record and a 78-48 doubles record. He won 3 titles in 15 finals.
greatkingrat's comeback
After winning the Australian Open, greatkingrat did not play many other tournaments in 2006. So the question was raised: is he a lucky Grand Slam winner? Thomas Johansson, Gaston Gaudio? His amazing comeback in 2007 (6 finals, singles ranking #2) answered our question. Yes, this greatkingrat is good.
adeegee!.: top 10 in both singles and doubles statistics but did not qualify to the TMC
adeegee!. was the 6th player in the singles statistics: 48 wins, 31 losses and 5 finals. His doubles numbers are impressive as well: 43-33 and 3 titles. Ok, you've not followed TT's TMC and you have no idea of how the rankings look like right now. Now tell me, do you think adeegee!. played in Shanghai? NOOOOO, you're wrong. His entry rankings: 9th in singles and 17th in doubles. That's bad luck. :awww:
Girls def boys in the "Battle Of The Sexes"
Most of the Tennis Tipping rankings are formed by male players. But quantity doesn't mean quality. The team led by savestheday91 (what a surpise, the capatin of DC's champion team) had less players, but it meant nothing to them. Boys did not have a chance since the first day, the Battle of the Sexes was easily won by the girls.
47 managers
47. This is the number of managers who run TT tournaments in 2007. This mark will probably be broken in 2008, but do we need more to mention this fact on this poll? It's good to know that there's a good number of players who want to contribute, the game is still growing and more tournaments will be run this year.
