It's not a win, don't lie to yourself.
It is a win. But it's not a title. A title is going all the way, a win is simply being (one of) the best competitor(s) here. If noone gets beyond day 5, then getting to day 5 is a win. You can see the difference in the ranking list. I have four wins this season but just one title.

So losing the final is a win?? Now I know why Norway is a midget on the world stage.

Being the best competitor is a win, yes. This is common for all games in here. You can win in FITD without having any of the SFs right if noone else did better. You can win in TT with a lot of picks wrong if your opponent did even worse. I am surprised you're struggling to grasp this concept.

NO FUCKING WAY!!! Consider the example of a maths test. No one can solve the equation but your teacher says, "Litotes, you got closer than any of your classmates." Do you therefore conclude that you SOLVED the equation? No! You should conclude that you FAILED to solve it, which means you LOST, which is the OPPOSITE of WIN.

As for TT, you're talking about something completely different - apples and oranges, as they say. Because in TT you are playing against an opponent. Just like in a real tennis tournament, Coric may play amazing against Nadal but still lose. Coric's level of play would have beaten Nishioka, but Nishioka was playing Mathieu. So Nishioka goes through to R2 and Coric doesn't, despite playing better than Nishioka.

With suicide tennis there are no opponents. It's an equation, you plug in the numbers; if they're wrong it doesn't add up and you lose. "But I got closer than anyone else... (please, Sir, can I have a gold star?)" NO, YOU STILL LOST!

Why are you arguing? 12 players won this edition. That's not in doubt and will not be changed just because you disapprove. Feel free to disregard any wins you get and focus on titles, that's what most of us are after anyway. But don't address winners just to claim they didn't win.

I was trying to help Fargif avoid falling into the socialist trap of celebrating failure. You're better than that, man.

It may seem like I'm over thinking this, but that's because I feel so strongly about it. My Suicide Tennis win - REAL WIN, as in I picked the winner in the final - is my greatest achievement on MTF (and probably the rest of my life). So I don't want it to be cheapened by every Tom, Dick and Harry claiming a "win" when they lost. If everyone picks a loser on day 1, have they all "won"? Because no one got further than they did. Ridiculous!

In my signature the W is for a REAL WIN only. I'll never mark a suicide tournament as "won" if it's anything else. I recently lost in a final and disregarded it completely. Check my signature - NO MENTION IS MADE OF IT! Others may be satisfied with hollow wins; I'm not!

And I say that with the greatest respect to Litotes, who I consider to be one of the most upstanding members of the MTF community.

As I said earlier, it's a difference between wins and titles. Don't read more into a "win" than is intended, and think of your own achievement as a "title".

Fargif undoubtedly knows the difference, and certainly aimed to go all the way here.

You just offended a intire peacefull nation because a game?
Early on when i played this game i didnt get the diference until i was ( with others ) the last men standing.

Its in the game rule books and i dont have a problem. Its not a title but those 12 beat the rest in the points department. Thats all you need to know. Now you have your opinion and we respect that. But there is no need for crap like that.

There is always the general message board if you wanna make friends or enemies.

Here we play.

Do you really think the entire population of Norway is reading a thread in a sub-section of a tennis forum? And even if they were, do you really think every single one of them would be offended by my little joke? If you said my country is a midget on the world stage, I'd be like "whatever, dude..." It wouldn't offend me in the slightest.

As for the difference between a win and a title, I'm sure I've read things like "Oh dear, no winners again this week" in suicide threads. So it seems like I'm not the only one who doesn't consider simply getting further than the rest to be a win. :nerner:
