Nadal-myth is getting busted slowly but surely

last 2 years:
*toubles Federer in Miami
*wins Toronto
*wins Beijing
*wins Madrid after losing 2 sets to love (INDOOR)
*wins Dubai, defeating Federer

Well, I do am surprised
not Toronto, Montreal... there IS a difference! :p

I agree with Rafa when he said he didn' play a bad match . The match decided by minimal facts and aspects and Johansson was the guy who took advantage of the few key moments to sting like a bee.

Watching the match overall I have the feeling Rafa showed to be the best player on court in the great part of the match usually holding easier than Johansson but he had two bad moments , the first set when in a game he served horribly like a WTA player Johansson took advantage of it playing very aggresive hitting great returns and broke Nadal , and the other key moment when was Johansson got two minibreaks by one for Rafa in the tie break .

Making a global analysis of the match I would say Johansson played better the big moments and Rafa showed more consistency but he lacked killer instint that Johansson had when he converted or saved break points. Looking at the stats of the match we can see that Rafa wasn't inferior to Joachim at all.

Though Johansson played a very good match a nÂş2 should have found solutions to win this match so I consider a failure his performance at Stockholm Open.

Well done,JJ!

Geesh, I dont believe Rafa is "dead" at all.

I mean, the way he is playing now, he could get knocked out quite soon in the Madrid Masters.

But even if he dosent win that, it dosent mean anything, other than the fact that he's been playing well below par after the awsome Wimbledon performance.

Who knows, he could win Madrid and be back to his old self, but that is unlikley, but whatever happens, he should be ok for that AO.

I honestly believe he was playing quite well in the US Open, but he screwed up against an awsome Misha when he had the 2nd set point in the third set on Misha's serve. That characteristic coolness, the one that has made him win all his tough matches, was simply not there.

I agree. The quarters of the US (which betters his last results by 2 rounds) is nothing to sneeze at.

A guy like Pim-Pim is always a danger to Rafa, even when Rafa's playing well. Just because he played not his greatest match is no reason to bury him in the ground just yet.

Actually it is not as fast as you think...is quite slow for a indoor surface....I know
From Bjorkman's blog:

"Tomorrow I will face Robin Söderling. He is in great form, played very well in the Davis Cup against Brazil, and it will be difficult to beat him on the slow surface we have here."

Söderling is on fire. This is true. PimPim is on fire as well, but looks like Söderling more... just PimPim defeated a most dangerous player so the hype for him is huge.

Blah, these are words, let's wait for action.

lol, i knew i forgot something in addition to report on that match tb. who the hell was using the loudspeaker before rafa's service??? :haha: rafa wants to serve and suddenly some swedish chat through tournie's staff's communication system, but very louded

Pim Pim :bounce: :bounce:

Good win :yeah:

Best of luck in your next match

COngrats JJ...

I'm guessing that it wasn't such a bad thing that I didn't have access to the internet through most of yesterday. I've only skimmed quickly through this thread.

I could only watch the match on the scoreboard so I won't say much about the match itself and I'm sure it's been discussed to death already but it's not that much of a surprise to see Rafa struggle against a good server.

See you in Madrid, Rafa (even though I won't be able to have any tv coverage of that so I'm doomed to watch the SB again :( )
Good luck!
