Dubai is an IS Gold tournament and Zagreb is only an IS tournament so Stakhovsky and Bolelli can't get a SE. They could however get a SE to Las Vegas if they wanted.

yeah, i thought of that also but thought that the poster before me had seen it somewhere official

can Bolelli get a SE for Vegas even without being on the entry list?

No, what you say isn't correct: if you play an IS series you can get the SE for the IS Gold series also, but not for masters series. ;)

no, what you say isn't correct. Ginepri made semis in San Jose and couldn't get SE for Memphis.

The SE decision comes before or just at the time the main draw is made, so nobody gets bumped after the draw is made but for sure a player that is near the cut in Las Vegas could lose out if Stakhovsky decides to take the SE at Las Vegas.

yeah that's what i meant - so someone who otherwise would have gotten in just doesn't get in...do they get bumped to qualifying?

Totally nonsensical that you can get a SE from ISG to Masters Series but not from IS to ISG.
The gulf in standard and prestige is much greater in the former set of events than in the latter.
In general there isn't much of a difference in standard between ISG and IS events if you took a random sample of each throughout the year.

The entry lists (that are posted in this forum) show that in a 32 player draw, there are a certain number of direct acceptances, a certain number of qualifying spots and 1 or 2 SE spots, depending on the tournament (even challengers have them). If the SE spots are unused, they are 'cleared' and then a player from the alternate list moves into the main draw to fill that spot.

Here's the current ATP rulebook, in PDF. You can actually save it to your computer, it's a handy thing to have.
