sportswriter humiliated for USO prediction: Fed had zero chance to win title!!

That's right. Yesterday on ESPN's Pardon the Interruption, Tony Kornheiser poked fun at Michael Wilbon's idiotic claim that Roger Federer had a ZERO percent chance to win this year's Open. He also predicted Andy would win. I guess it shows how little a person knows about tennis when he claims the reigning USO champ and the best player by a mile had no chance to win it. What an arrogant idiot.

Yep. Roger also got huge props on around the horn. The one guy named Dave said Roger is the single greatest athlete today and is dominatiing the sport more so than Tiger is dominating golf. Wilbon is a moron who won't pick any non American to win a major.
was he drunk when he made those predictions?
Excuse my ignorance, who is Wilbon?

 that's the funniest thing i've read today
Wilbon is a local sports columnist here in Washington, he writes articles for the Washington Post, and now has this show on ESPN. He knows a lot about the Redskins and the Wizards (football and basketball), and is a decent commentator usually, but I doubt he's ever even watched tennis.
HATA!
Who says Roger has ZERO chance to win ANY tournament?
Is the devil buying ice skates because hell must certainly be freezing over right now.

They were actually complimentary towards Federer on an ESPN show (Around the Horn)? Yahoo! During PTI- did Tony and Michael actually say anthing complimentary about tennis after Tony ragged Michael or did they go back to their usual schtick of poo-pooing the sport?

You have to be quite dumb to make predictions about a sport, you know nothing about!

I drive by the building they film the show in on the way home from work, maybe I'll go in and set them straight about tennis...

i saw that show. i didn't believe for a minute that he meant that prediction. it was ESPN and he was expected to root for Roddick. i didn't take his comments seriously nor should we take seriously his colleague poking fun at him.

heck Amex and Lexus developed a huge campaign around Roddick bec this was supposed to be his year. that is more deserving of ridicule than a sports commentator doing his patriotic schtick.

Does anyone have a transcript of any of these shows? I would like to read (and re-read, and re-read) anything good about tennis these people have to say. PTI is notorious for always getting on the anti-tennis bandwagon. Last year after the US Open (I think) Kornheiser basically stated "who cares about tennis, tennis is dead", while Wilbon sheepishly said that he heard that Roger Federer was pretty good". Wilbon also wrote an idiotic article this year on the Washington Post about the state of tennis, after Roddick had called him to chastise him about Wilbon's comments on PTI.

Heck, right after the 1995 US Open final between Sampras and Agassi, Wilbon wrote an article on the Washington Post about the sad state of tennis and how Sampras/Agassi was supposed to be THE rivalry and no one could get excited about it. So you see, dismissing tennis has been one of his pet projects for at least a decade.

Wilbon is pretty good about other sports, I have to say. Except when he pretends he knows something about figure skating...

Kornheiser? He. Gets. On. My. Last. Nerve.

wilbon also claimed that the red sox were finished the very year they won the world series. go sox!! (stupid commentator... )

I agree that his prediction wasn't serious. If I'm not mistaking he's one of the ESPN guys that have something nice to say about tennis. I think he just made that prediction to annoy Tony cuz Tony hates Roddick.
Wilbon also claimed that men tennis is boring because of all the serve and volley.:tape:

that's what i thought as well. i think he actually admires Fed very much. he was just being provocative and folks are taking it too seriously. these guys make a game of point-counterpoint that's all. ;)
