okay, this is getting to be ridiculous!

why in the hell does Roddick get Arthur Ashe and Guga and Roger get Court 10? And after a doubles match? Oh c'mon! What a joke!

Why dont they just both both of them on after a boys singles match? I wouldnt be surprised.

Becca, I posted the weather in the Sunday thread & the Juan Carlos chat thread (both links are not static). But it might rain a bit this morning, then clear off definitely by the evening.

Lily, it's because the USTA is so blatantly biased. Anything Roddick does turns to gold, but the higher seeds (and better players) must do their thing on the outside courts.

It also helps crowd control to disperse the big names when rain delays back things up. I'd be happy if I were there...you'd get a better look at Haas/Enqvist, Clijsters/Mauresmo, Mirnyi/Federer, Hantuchova/Henin, and Ferrero/Gonzalez. What more could you ask for?

The reason why players dont get first match after they played the last one night before is totally reasonable.
Of course the rule wasnt created by the same jerks who f**ked up the schedule even before the rain destroyed the rest of it. Now we pay for it, since loads of good matches will be played at the same time, and we can only see one. :fiery:
And probably at some moment of the day we will get stuck with Roddick or Sampras.

Whatever...
The one positive point on not getting the non-american guys on arthur ashe is that the people who are there for tennis and not xenophoby can pay cheaper tickets and get wonderful action anyway.
As Im not there, though, I HATE THEM. :p

Further Proof the USTA are Wankers

from today's NYTimes:

Ticket Exchange in Order After Rain
By CHRISTOPHER CLAREY

It was a long time to wait--more than five hours--for one very short match. And fans who bought tickets to see a full day's play at Arthur Ashe Stadium yesterday at the United States Open were hardly universally delighted at having paid a minimum of $48 to see Serena Williams swat Daja Bedanova in 41 minutes.

"The women should play three out of five sets," said Millie Hallow, 56, of Crofton, Md.

Her husband, Ralph, 64, said, "Especially the Williamses," and also lobbied for a roof to be installed over Ashe Stadium.

The Hallows did not actually see the match. They waited in their Manhattan hotel until they saw the players go on court on television, then took the shuttle to the stadium. When they arrived, the match was over, and when they walked over to Louis Armstrong Stadium to watch Pete Sampras face Greg Rusedski, Sampras and Rusedski were already walking off because of rain.

Under the Open's policy, ticket-holders are entitled to only a comparable ticket to the next year's Open if no match is completed during a session on a stadium court. That means Williams's demolition of Bedanova potentially saved Open organizers tens of thousands of dollars.

At Wimbledon, if there is less than an hour's play on any day, ticket-holders are given a full refund. Between one hour and two hour's play gets them a 50 percent refund.

In an attempt to console the paying public, the United States Tennis Association allowed grounds pass-holders to enter Ashe Stadium for Williams's match. It remains unclear how that gesture will affect the ability of yesterday's grounds pass-holders to exchange their tickets. Technically, because no matches were completed on the outside courts, they should be entitled to exchange them.

The U.S.T.A. has not determined how it will deal with the issue and may decide to offer exchanges to all who had tickets yesterday. "We've have had longstanding policies; we've never been in this situation before," said Arlen Katarian, the U.S.T.A.'s chief executive for professional tennis. "We'll do what's right for the fan. We'll take reason into account."

What is clear is that individual ticket-holders to last night's session are entitled to an exchange, because the session was canceled.
