Good win for McGee, who held his nerve and broke Nishioka when the latter was serving for the first set, then won it in tiebreak. During the second set, McGee appeared to run low on gas (commentator: "he's pooped!"), but Nishioka started having problems with his lower back, which gave McGee time to recuperate.

Next up for McGee? A quarterfinal showdown with the #1 seed, Smyczek.

(Also, anyone who complains about the WTA groans/shrieks needs to watch a McGee match sometime. I love James, don't get me wrong, but his moans & groans are basically pornographic, haha.)

I know height is not everything but is Nishioka only 5'7? I never seen him play but heard he got some potential. You think he's a future top player?

I think he'll be top 50 at some point in his career, but he's had a string of disappointing results and hasn't really progressed since getting through the qualies of USO. Height may hold him back too much.
