Just checked the latest rankings and was surprised to see Santiago "Ace" Ventura, the clay detective, back in the Top 100 (for the first time since May '05). This is the guy who won an ATP title on his first try at that level (Casablanca '04).

Congrats Santi :yeah: He started the year at #424 in the rankings and is now at #84. Here's the review of his year from the ATP site:

2007 IN REVIEW The Spaniard finished in Top 100 for first time in his career with consistent Challenger results, climbing over 300 ranking positions from previous season...Compiled a 42-22 record and won two titles while reaching one ATP SF...Began season by competing in Futures events, advancing to SF at Spain #3 in January and winning Spain #5 title in February...In March, moved to Challenger level, reaching QF at Barletta and Monza, Italy...In only two ATP appearances, advanced to SF in Valencia (l. to eventual champ Almagro) and 2nd RD in Estoril (l. to eventual winner No. 5 Djokovic)...Returned to Challengers in May and reached final at Mas Palomas (l. to Luczak)...Following month, won Milan title (d. Hanescu), dropping only one set during week...In next two months, advanced to final at Timisoara (l. to Hanescu) and Cherkassy (l. to Pashanski) and won Montevideo (d. Granollers-Pujol)...In doubles, won a circuit-best nine titles in 10 finals with five different partners.

Well done to Ventura for winning the title and moving back in the top 100.
It was great when he beat Hrbaty to win the Casablanca title in 2004.

He won Casachallenger as a qualifier and had some injury problems, but good to see him back in the top 100 and he isn't bad to watch and loves the dropshots.

Santi Ventura, he is almost as cool as Jesse "the Body" Ventura.
