Didn't watch the match, just saw on the live score that Julien lost his serve at 6-2 5-2, but managed to finish it on his second attempt with a love game.

This win should give him a new carreer high at number 31 ... at 30 years old.

And he can still do better in the next months as he has few points to lose.

Ps : in the meantime, Benneteau's win prevents Bogomolov from entering the top-32 for the first time.

Muller was really terrible in the first set- like Julien wasn't even playing that well and broke him at least 3 times, and Muller is pretty serve oriented. Still, any easy win for Julien is a win for humanity.

I've never heard of Darcis- what do you think Julien's chances are next match?

 You've really never heard of him?

But I would say good, Darcis is one of those players who can play really well at times but he most likely won't, I expect Benneteau to win for sure.

Benneteau's results since Winston-Salem last year have been very good. He's gone from 113 to almost top 30 in six months.

yes, and what I like in that is that he had had a very good beginning of the year 2010 and was going probably to break his carreer high when he injured his wrist in the US Open, that's why he dropped again.

It's nice that he could do it again, and even better.

Darcis can play very well, yes, he won in Memphis 4 years ago beating Söderling and Melzer. And last week he reached the final in Dallas challenger. Also I read in the beginning of the year in Belgian press that he had great hopes for this year.

Yeah it should be an interesting match. Darcis has one of the strangest careers (can't compete with Stakhovsky though) and did well to beat Stepanek in straights.

San Jose is considered one of the fastest courts in the calendar, and Muller got broken 5 times? :spit: What the hell?

Yes, good for Benneteau on the new career-high. :)

I have enjoyed watching his matches over the years...plays with good effort, and has a nice style. His tendency to choke also adds an interesting dimension, although if you were a good fan of him I could imagine that it would be extremely irritating!

He should be looking to go a round better at IW, Miami, French Open and Wimbledon, and to continue to rack up some consistent results in optional events.

If he can continue his strong start to 2012, there is a good chance he can finish the year inside the top 30. His ranking is nicely cushioned until the US summer hard court season, so he has plenty of time to build on his current position.

 It was a bit crazy. He had signed up to play the Istanbul Challenger when his rank was 100+. But he improved way too quickly and was called for Davis Cup duty that week. I was sad that I couldn't get to watch him play. I'm glad he's almost top 30 now but now he's just too good he'll never play Istanbul Ch. :haha: His good friend Mahut actually played Istanbul and lost 1st round. He was kind of famous in Turkey because of the Wimbledon nightmare match with Isner.
I hope he wins something this year.
