Cites "medical reasons". Sits at #129 in the ATP rankings with nothing on the schedule and AO qualification on the line.

I don't know anything more than this. Also in swiss newspapers it says just "medical reasons".
I will write Wawrinka an SMS later, but I don't have his number.

He is 40 years old and a millionaire. He must understand by now that his career is over and it was a pretty solid career. Does he not know how to live for f.s sake without grinding it on the tennis court? Go watch sunsets all over the world Stan, buy a beach house and enjoy the rest of your time alive.

To call Stans career "pretty solid" is so endlessly wrong and arrogant. What goals have we MTF hunks reached? Hä? A FITD title? A girlfriend for one year? A solid job in a solid company?

He will probably get WCs to both Stockholm and Basel. Maybe Shanghai too? Did they announce it?

If he still enjoys playing, leave him be. We should be thrilled we can still see such an amazing player.

He can watch sunsets from the beach house at 41-42 as well, not much of a difference a year or two will make. Sun & beach will be the same.

Already said what I think in the QF and Challenger discussion threads and yeah...sucks to see him have an injury (which amazingly this season he barely had signs of) and having to withdraw when it seemed he has the momentum; hope he recover enough and does get a win or 2 in tour level for the Indoor Season, as I am hoping he'd reach 600 wins (and at least 1000 matches played) in tour level.

Solid is a career for someone who reached one R4 at Wimbledon, won a tournament ATP 250, 17 challenger titles in singles and doubles and has one win over a top 20 player. That is solid.

Stans career was and is outstanding. He won three Grand Slam titles beating two of the three best players of all time with offensive shotmaking from the baseline which is still unmatched.

I don’t think Wawrinka’s career is outstanding. I think it’s pretty solid.

Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have outstanding careers. It doesn’t matter who you compete with, that’s the whole point. If you are a top contender you beat whoever your opponent is, it didn’t matter for Nadal, Nole or Federer who they play against. They are ready to outperform their opponent, whoever that is, that’s the whole point of being called one of the best players of all time. And that is outstanding.

Winning 3 Grand Slams and only 1 Masters 1000 when there is a player that won 40 Masters 1000 and 24 Grand Slams is pretty solid.

Wawrinka was never as driven as the top 3, he didn't achieve his grand slams until a relatively late age.. To me, the manner in which he won the grand slams and just his brand of tennis overall make him a very special player.. I saw him live & ive seen Alcaraz live. I would choose to watch the backhand every time..

Statistics aren't everything.

A solid career describes someone like Sonego IMO.. we forget the thousands and thousands of players that try to play professionally but get nowhere.. top 100 means you are already something special.
