Finally an hypothetical matchup that's actually very interesting and very difficult to call. I'll hesitantly say Nadal in 5, it needs to be kept in mind Nadal was much better than Sampras 2000 and also that the match would involve a lot more baseline rallying, at that point of his career Safin would probably be edged by a great champion in his prime.

Safin AO 2005 would take this though, in 4 sets over 2010 USO Nadal.

Sampras tactically was quite poor in that one, kept running to the net and getting burnt even if it was a brutal display of how to take apart that kind of game from Safin. AO 05 Safin's a tougher ask for Nadal.

Think Nadal would edge this one in 5, but not vs AO 05 Safin.

One thing Safin has that would bother Nadal is jackhammer 2-hander backhand flattened out cross court into Nadal's FH. The two matches they played were when Safin was way over the hill so no real analysis could have been gained from them.

Safin of course. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant or plain stupid.

USO 2010 was one of the greatest abominations to have befallen sports and mankind. A disgusting cakewalk draw served for Na dull on a plate. Youzhny in the SF, Novak in the F playing his worst hardcourt match of all time. Disgusting stuff.

Nadal beat Djokovic 6-1 in 4th set of 2013 US Open, so maybe 2013 Nadal was better than 2010 Nadal.
And 2013 Djokovic was arguably better than 2010 Djokovic.

Is Slade paying you to post here so he can take some time off from this place?

No, but I clearly should. Tennis can't hold my interest any longer. I'm all about the cricket now.

OT: Safin in 3.

Marat Safin and Pete Sampras of US Open 2000 would beat Nadal US'10.

Safin in 3. Dull in 2010 had the easiest draws ever. He would get destroyed.

Still funny how that improved serve only lasted one tournament though. How do you explain that?

Nadal served at 123mph on average 1st serve at 2011 Wimbledon Final.
Whereas for all the hype he got at 2010 US Open he only served at 116mph in the Final vs Djokovic (but 120mph for the tournament).
The media hype tricked a lot of people.

Lmao at the responses nadal has never been straighsetted in a slam final, and yet he would get straighsetted by Safin when the likes of Federer and Djokovic failed at this... too much hate and delusion in this forum..
