according to an article on sportnet.hr, his doctor in Frankfurt told him he is going to need to go through therapy for 5 weeks before he can play. he hopes to return at the Japan Open.

i also heard that Davydenko might be out of the tie as well

Damn, I wanted to see Safin vs. Ljubicic. Without Davydenko and Safin it would be Youzhny and Andreev, along with Gabashvilli and someone else. Croatia shouldn't have too much of a problem on a fast court.

Before the US Open he was due to be out for 6 weeks so that's no surprise  ;)
I'm glad that he is not playing, that means he wont be tweaking more things hopefully

If I hear anything on Kolya, I will let you know...
M.Safin is out of Davis Cup tie with Croatia

This has been officially announced by a Russian captain. He also said that Marat would need, at least, another a month and a half to heal his knee.
