Were they just BABIES? Both of them were 20 years old that year, as Nadal was in 2006.

Imagine how good they would be once they hit their PRIME.

Oh...wait....

Hewitt can't handle power. Safin was a nut case. Roddick was a servebot. That's why the player in your photo is known as Vulturer and Weakerer.

So Scampras didn't have power?

:spit: Hewitt made a living of handling power. He owned young Fed before 2004 as well as all the S&Vers of the day. Hewitt was their worst nightmare.

He wasn't quite as good at generating power though which is why Fed managed to turn the match-up around, once he got the hang of being a little bit more consistent.

Come on man they barely played against Fed at slams, especially Safin. Which just shows how streaky and irrelevant they were overall - it didn't need an alltime great to stop them.

Safin only made it nine times past the 4th round at slams. Nine! That's nothing, guy lost to anybody.

Hewitt played Federer in 04 Australian Open, 04 Wimbledon, 04 US Open, 05 Wimbledon, 05 US Open, 08 Wimbledon, and 10 Australian Open. Not to mention all the masters series events, and the YEC final in 2004.

NONSENSE! To say that Karlovic had even half the all round game Sampras did is ignorant, at best, or just hateful babble.
get over it, Sampras is to the 90s what Nadal is the 00s

fluked many slams because of favourable court conditions

put sampras in 02 onwards and he would have maybe 1 or 2 slams max.

So this thread is basically about Fed-Hewitt in 04?
Then simply call it "Fed owned Hewitt in 04" and spare us the propaganda.
Hewitt's H2H vs Fed is actually quite decent for such a streaky player.

And while we're at it, let's take a look at Hewitt's slam results in 03 - just to see if 04 was really about Fed or about Hewitt.
AO - lost to El Aynaoui
RG - lost to Robredo
W - lost to Karlovic
USO - lost to Ferrero
:haha: :worship:

BULLSHIT! A player cannot win 14 slams without being a great player. To say otherwise, is Pathetically Stupid! Great players adjust to the court conditions of the era they are competing in.

people say Nadal isn't a great player on here all the time

and no, Sampras did not "adjust" to court conditions hence making RG SF at best, a hopeless mug who FLUKED in an era of choking mugs (Chang, Agassi, whos spend half his time having "fun", Courier who gave up after 93ish, Becker who was now into the second decade of his career) and surfaces built for him.

So....what you're saying is Hewitt and Safin hit their prime at 20?

How is this possible? Poor Nadal was just a BABY at 20 years old, but Safin and Hewitt played their best, Pete Sampras-ass-kicking level tennis at 20?
