Re: Rotterdam R16: [5] D. Dzumhur def. F. Verdasco 6-2 7-5

Medvedev just plays like a machine, so tough to beat.

Medvedev is really becoming the real deal now... at times unplayable, not because he plays some unreturnable shots, but because of his retrieving skills and his first class defense.
If he could have a better serve, then he'd even had some better chances in slams.

With the sort of consistency Medvedev has been putting up, it should be sooner rather than later that he makes his first Masters QF, actually quite puzzling that he didn’t make one last year...... Partly due to running into Coric and Zverev left and right though.

Steady Meddy :sport:

Verdasco visibly and verbally frustrated by the Russian's defence.

Wow what a boring, terrible match. Medwedew had like what... 4 winners in the entire match while fiasco was missing every second forehand...

I think that this streak of successes is mostly due to the mental balance he established recently.

in the past, he was focusing more on biased referring than on his game, ( throwing coins at referee, racist comments - even though he didn't mean to be racist he just complained on biased referring mostly), and was very easy to defeat him. Just wait for a questionable call from the umpire.

However it seems that these mental problems are behind him and he mostly focuses on his tennis now :yeah:

The Medvedev train keeps moving. A frustrated Verdasco tried everything alternating ball bashing/long rallies/drop-shotting, but all for naught.

The main concern for Medvedev is his playing style for his height. Someone said he's similar to Novak, but Djoko is much shorter than him and has more muscles, more fluid strokes. Medvedev can be prone to injuries in further stages of his career.

7W/16UFE Medvedev
15W/42UFE Verdasco
Just 1 in a 6-2 set , is telling . What an effortless (it's not that he runs a lot ) simple steady defensive game showing. It's destroying any kind of attack right now .

I want him vs Tsonga let's see which style prevails .

And the two are last week champions...

Good point, plus married life evidently agrees with Medvedev  His current run of form started around the time he tied the knot last September, which he himself acknowledged some weeks later:

He thinks some of his recent success, though, during the North American hard-court swing occurred because of what he did just before stretch began. Medvedev proposed to his girlfriend, and they married on 12 September.

“If it happens like this, you propose to your girlfriend, and you win two titles, one ATP 500, become Top 25, it means that somebody is showing you that you did what you need to do,” said Medvedev, who rose to No. 22 on Monday. “The best end of the season of my life.”
