A dropshot galore throughout, a GOATing Bellucci at the end of 1st set.
A very solid and agressive Novak in 2nd + 3rd sets, to get the breaks with a pressured DF and forced errors in the 3rd.

9th QF here reached for Nole, well done.

Re: Rome R3: Djokovic [8] def. Bellucci 5-7, 6-2, 6-3

Not at all convincing. Nishikori may beat this Djokovic, playing at least as bad as he was going into the USO match

As expected, Novak's application of his favorite gameplan reaped the results in sets 2&3. :yeah:

Djoko is still so rusty. Can't see him winning the tournament playing like this. Will have to play better against Nishi. He played some shots that reminded us why he is the best player in the world, but too often he was wasting BP's or hitting UE. Good effort from Belluci though.

Has anyone got a sedative for Bruce7?

He will, you can be sure of it-

His constant whining about Novak's pushing and moonballing was just too much. At the end he gave up though.

Bellucci very underrated here surely one of top 5 best clay courters today when in form. I remember he almost beat Djokovic last year in Rome.

Wow, Bellucci. So big!

Really a threat to all the seeds in RG, well maybe apart from the very top 5 or so guys.

Djokovic didn't have too much intensity, but tidied it up enough after that, waited for Bellucci to self-destruct, which he inevitably did.

Strange third: Bellucci breaks himself (three errors to 0/40, saves all three, another error then df on bp). Djokovic donates it straight back, and Bellucci breaks himself to love the next game.

you are aware that 'almost beat' means literally nothing right? Dolgopolov now and then almost beats practically all of the top players, yet is not magically one of the top 10 hard court players on tour just because he has a high level occasionally

at any rate Bellucci can be tricky so good win for Novak. next round is a major question mark as Nishikori hasn't really been THAT good this season and but obviously will come in with some confidence based on the US Open result
