Rome R1: Tsonga def Dolgopolov 6-3 7-6(5)

the match was shown at a great angle, so we were able to properly see the length, angle, and pace of the players’ shots.

Dolgo is fucking ridiculous. He swings with such speed and his FH has so much spin, he ballbashes every return, aims for winners on every defensive shot, and his kick serve literally defies physical law.

He was bad in the first set, but picked it up in set 2. Tsonga was lucky at one point in the tiebreak where he returned 3 overhead smashes consecutively and then Dolgo netted the fourth.

Overall a solid match from Jo. Expected result, better and more talented player won.
:bigwave: at all those who were misled by peak Giraldo into thinking Tsonga’s form was terrible.

Dolgopolov's main problem tonight was finishing off the points. That missed overhead at *4-3 in the tiebreak was facepalm worthy. There's where he lost it

He definetly should've taken at least a set here

First time I've seen Tsonga play decently in a while. Maybe he'll do something at RG after all.

Dolgo really has nothing. No forehand, no backhand, can't serve, can't return serve, and no mental strength.

This guy should be playing futures from now on.

 I didn't think Tsonga was very good, personally. He lost most of the points where Dolgo didn't totally self destruct. But god, were there a lot of points where Dolgo totally self destructed. He's in a very, very weak section though, and could make the QF.

Shame these two had to meet so early . Dog started horribly and it cost him the first set. Was an interesting end to the second set, Dolgo looked on the verge of an implosion but then GOATed for a few points, forcing Tsonga to come up with some good serving to reach the TB. Dog got the early mb but then gave it away with a howler of a point involving a terrible overhead.

Good win for JWT all things considered.

Disgusting play by Dog, should have pissed through that 2nd set, gifted at least 2-3 points in almost all Tsonga games and still managed to push him to 30 or deuce in all but 1 of them, holding comfortably himself all the while. Tsonga wasted a 15-40* towards the end and Dolg did the same straight after, but losing 6 of the last 7 points in the TB was too much, really.

Dolgo ballbashes the shit out of the ball even when returning the serves. Tsonga did what he could to manage it.
