Strange match. In part because both guys were in each other's service games so often until late in the second set and after it**.

Looked like it was going to be Sock's victory in straight sets, but his first serve wasn't there. Good match by Gillou.

Are you talking about 2013 Madrid?

Scoreline and game very bizarre. Sock practically gifted Gillou the breaker

Is it a do-over of Madrid after that result in the final?

Was watching the match until they cut off it to Dimitrov-Janowicz (Sock was a break at the 2nd Set too)...can't say I'm surprised, as I thought Sock did well to keep the momentum throughout the match, but there is that NID feeling that he would probably lose this as surely Simon would find a way back in and Sock would eventually struggle.

This was all about Sock's inexperience. Gilles was playing rubbish, moaning at himself looking frustrated and instead of Jack putting in 2 solid service games the 2 times he was up a break in the 2nd set he played slack games. Gilles may sometimes look like he wants to smash and racket and walk off court saying 'fuck this shit' but underneath he is always trying to get a foothold into a match.

Once Gilles had got back into the match there was only one winner, he started for the most part rolling through service games and you knew it wouldn't be long before he broke Sock in the 3rd set.

A lesson for Sock in that you really have to kill off matches against high ranked guys like Gilles and for Gilles a win and he started playing much better in the 3rd set.
