No real major differences from Madrid aside from the fact that Auger-Aliassime has gone from barely getting into the Q's to right in the middle of the main draw!

Has Roger actually said anything about playing Rome? His website only lists Madrid & RG for clay season. Maybe he's waiting to see how Madrid goes before deciding on this one.

The prequalification tournament starts today : https://www.internazionalibnlditalia.com/news/in-evidenza/scattano-le-pre-quali-al-forosi-parte-sabato-le-sfide-su-supertennis-da-lunedi/?fbclid=IwAR2xJMlDQu4vyKFMd_3-pLDnWZm1I1R-cDlO8uK8mXwutX2iXjREVQiOoVg

The winner of it will get a WC for the main draw, and the runner-up too, only if Seppi reaches the main draw (he is currently second on the list in case of withdrawals) and for the following 4 players (finalist or semi finalist to the best quarter final results), there are for 4 WC for the qualifications

Sinner (bye for the first 2 rounds) and Musetti are playing this tournament.

stupid decision from organizers to give all 4 qualis WC to the prequaly tournament
most of the italian players ranked 100-200 are not playing the prequali and now will probably end with Baldi and Sinner in MD and a bunch of lesser players in the qualy
( at a time when Fabbiano, Travaglia, Mager, Caruso, Marcora are all having their best seasons or near their best ranking)

What stopped any of those players you mentioned from entering the pre-qualifying tournament?

you miss one challenger week and also you'd get to play 2-3 prequaly matches just to play the qualies

Prequaly QF

Jannik Sinner b. Riccardo Balzerani 62 60
Lorenzo Musetti b. Enrico Dalla Valle 62 64
Jacopo Berrettini b. Filippo Baldi 46 75 76(8)
Andrea Basso b. Raul Brancaccio 63 62

SF
Jannik Sinner vs. Lorenzo Musetti
Jacopo Berrettini vs. Andrea Basso

so if seppi enters directly one of Jacopo Berrettini (ATP 421) or Andrea Basso (ATP 444) will have a WC in MD even if they lose to the winner of Sinner - Musetti

Wow this is fucked, can't believe neither of Travaglia, Mager and Marcora will be in playing in Rome, that is so stupid from the organizers, they should have awarded just 1 WC for the Qualies like most pre qualies tournaments do.

Sinner won 67 76 63 saving a MP
Basso 75 64

tomorrow final but probably both will enter if Seppi doesnt need the MD WC

Baldi or Balzerani (ATP 495) will play tomorrow to get qualifying WC together with Musetti and J. Berrettini
If Seppi enters directly both Basso and Balzerani will enter

I agree it is a stupid decision to give all 4 qualies WC to prequalifing, 2 would have been enough.
The prize money for the prequalifying is pretty huge - 153K euros (which includes the round 1 prize money for the winners). There were over 15000 players playing in the prequalifying events all over Italy.

The semi finals are:

Jannik Sinner vs. Andrea Basso

Jacopo Berrettini vs. Lorenzo Musetti

Why are Jacopo and Lorenzo playing? Isn’t Sinner vs Basso the match for a MDWC, and Lorenzo and Jacopo already have a QWC?

prizemoney and of course if one of the WCs gets injured/sick the winner of Jacopo vs Lorenzo will be next in line

The entry lists are decided with weeks in advance. Garín wasn't top 50 the week the entry list for Rome was closed, and he didn't enter the qualies, because his team thought of playing Munich, Qualy of Madrid, rest, Geneva and Roland Garros. He had to opt out of Madrid and now he has 2 rest weeks.
