I never expected Thiem to win and was surprised to see him as the slight betting favorite, but this was a great match nevertheless. Perhaps should have won the first set and 2/22 BP is more than gross, but oh well. You can't expect him to win a grindfest like that right after winning his first title.

terrible from Domi on BP conversion, but tbf I'm surprised he made it that close. Next year, hopefully he'll be seeded @ RG and will avoid these early matches.

Cuevas breaks his R2 curse, finally.

Thiem mental midget on BPs.
not just on BPs, but overall.

Some terrible returning, horrible shot selection, DFing etc.
Totally deserved loss.

Hm. Good match, fullfilled the expectations at least from the parts i saw more or less.

Thiem was mentally weak in Tiebreak in set 1.

Cuevas seems to be very solid and will be dangerous for Monfils (and for Federer maybe later as well)

Federer already beat him twice. For Cuevas talking. But Monfils will have a big problems with Cuevas. He is tough and very solid. He troubled Nadal as well.

Thiem played an amazing match, I'm really surprised he made it this close.

Instead of cursing him for missed opportunities, why don't people appreciate the things he did do right in the match (of which I think there are many), especially considering he was playing against an in-form clay-court specialist?

Thiem has so much fire power, Sepp Resnik is not only a greatest human on earth, but also a great physical coach. But he needs to fix his mental side, 2/22 is so muggy. It's because of his return it seems, he either overhits it or hits it to the net, needs to find balance. This new generation is full of anti return guys. Great match nevertheless, only the first tie break had 6 great points, two ohbh players who are suitable match up for each other, I was entertained. Next is Monflis, another beauty.

I actually said in the WWW topic that Thiem would struggle against Cuevas. I keep seeing that Pablo is underrated here.
