Business as usual. I'm sure people are gonna say Sinner was average, he isn't beating such and such (Alcaraz the only one who is a clear favorite at this stage h2h honestly) but everyone was saying similar things during last years US Open and this years AO, two majors he won. Sinner tends to lift his level depending on the player he is playing, and the position he is in the match. Will he win RG? Maybe, but i'd be very surprised if he did unless Carlos has an erratic day or gets knocked out early. Also he hasn't played Djoko on clay before AFAIK so that could also be a match he could lose if Nole plays like he did at the olympics last year. I'm hoping Jannik does it to silence his critics calling him a Hard court specialist, but im trying to be as fair and impartial as possible.

So the tour has basically 1 player who's clinical on all surfaces nowadays.
The 2nd and 3rd sets were good, the 1st set shouldn't have been as close as it was, with Sinner saving 3 break points when serving for the set.

Ahah, I thought the same! While I was watching I was like "oh, cool! Look how he manages to win a spectacular point before he ends his care... Oh, well".
Some signs of brilliance here and there today still, but I suppose it was time! When he won his first match on the tour today's opponent was a toddler and the current title hodler hadn't even been conceived!

Not much to be learned about Sinner today, no fireworks but they were not really needed either.

Richard Gasquet has been a huge part of my tennis experience all these years

It has been a privilege watching him play tennis, he might have not had the firepower to beat the top players but he played entertaining tennis

The best French player of his generation with Tsonga and Monfils 🫡

Merci Richie

the thing is he actually had the firepower to beat them as he showed it in parts when he was 18/20.

but the main issue was his lack of drive to improve, to work physically, his lack of competitiveness (he even said after a cruel 5 sets loss to Gonzalez at AO that he was happy to lose that way ffs) and above all that FH which so many people still wonder why he changed its technique for the worst (a pathetic and atrocious grip which resulted mostly in moonballs landing too short) after his first few years on the tour where his FH was actually more than decent if not sometimes deadly
