Chennai, December 16, 2002: Rohan Bopanna, the young 22-year old from Bangalore, has been awarded a wild card entry into the Tata Open 2003 Tennis Championships, scheduled for December 30, 2002 - January 5, 2003 at Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium in Chennai. Bopanna, who is currently No. 1 in the AITA rankings, recently had a great run in the Asian Tennis Championships in Uzbekistan, where he finished as the runner-up.

"I'm really excited about playing a tour event here and it is a matter of pride for one to play in one's home country," said Rohan Bopanna from Bangalore.

"Now in its eighth year, this tournament has been a springboard for young Indian tennis players, who get a chance to play against international stars like Becker, Rafter, Philippoussis, and Srichaphan in Chennai," said Mr. Anil Khanna, Honarary Secretary General - AITA. "With Rohan Bopanna and Prakash Amritraj, once again, IMG has ensured that deserving Indian tennis players get a wildcard into the main draw of this prestigious tournament. The AITA and IMG have always worked together to give young Indian players such a worthwhile opportunity, and will continue to do so to help develop tennis in India," he added.
