As Weird as the comparison sounds there is some basis. let me explain that
WTF was played on a much faster O2 arena. It was pacier fast indoor tennis that is in retrospect so much different than the run of the mill slow court tennis that happens. Granted that is not a Grand Slam but the results were quite astounding. Nadal bumped out early by Tsonga, Novak went out early, although in Novak's case it was attributed to Burn outs. The tennis was enjoyable too. Skilled tennis was on show, hit the ball on the rise, one or two pefect shots was enough, how much aggresive you are counted than how much strong is your defense and so on. And there were some surprises. Tsonga performing refreshingly well. It poses another question that Are the likes of natural ball strikers like Tsonga,Berdych being shot changed because of much slower courts.
And on comes Novak's AO 2012. The Tennis brutal. One or two winner is not enough. You have to play almost 3or 4 or 5 winners to win a rally. There were plenty of high intense matches where the intensity was never slackened. It was exciting in its own way. But there were some glaring mishaps too. The match of Berdych Nadal typified that. Berydch was hitting in what in any other era would have been a winner but still got defeated by Nadal. Lack of volleying and Over head hitting was another shortcoming. But all in all it captured audience around the world. Some of the people who never watched the game, it certainly caught their imagination.
So what is your Pick Roger's 2011 WTF or Novak's 2012 AO?
