First and mo important thing. If Nadal goes deep does that mean he is the new number 1.

IS roger's ranking in trouble?

Secondly,

What is wrong with him does he even slice the ball anymore? come to net? drop volley and lob?

NO. HE is all about forehand and backhand. He is an average player at the moment.

Someone tell me whats wrong

Um, were we watching the same player yesterday?

He S&V, he came to the net (maybe too much), he sliced on occasion (I'm not sure the slice is a good weapon against Murray, in fact - I wanted Roger to rip that forehand a bit more), he volleyed... his main problems were the UFE and the rust, timing on the return, and sometimes the serve...

I've seen problems evolving from Roger not playing enough, rather than missing a step on occasion (like we've seen against Djoko, and sometimes against Nalby last year) - this match was all about the errors, when Roger got agressive didn't put a forehand meters wide - he won the point.

The game is still there - if he gets some more match practice, he will do better.

I'm looking at the guys playing and realizing how unlucky Roger got - I mean, WHO GETS A TOP 10 PLAYER IN THE FIRST ROUND?

I'm just a tiny bit bitter, you see.

^^ It's called Bad Luck.

Despite that, if one deserves to win a tournament, one should win EACH and EVERY match. Muzza deserved this win, he was the better player.

not in trouble until Monte Carlo at least. considering his last year IW and Miami and playing Estoril this year, Roger probably won't have problems for ranking untill Roland Garros or Wimbledon (without any big upsets at Monte Carlo, Hamburg and RG).

He's fine.

Just needs more match practice.

As for the draw, as I said, it is the worst draw ever for a number 1 in the history of Tennis. No number one has ever faced a number 12 in the first round since rankings were instituted.

It's bound to happen eventually when you are number 1 for 4 years straight.

I feel the same way. I don't even care about him not winning the tournament but he needs the match play. And it's even more depressing knowing that outside of the rust he wasn't playing that badly. Had he drawn any other possible player he probably would have won and would be able to work his way into the tournament. It would just be Roger's luck to get a shitty draw in IW too.

I hope whomever is brought on board to Team Fed drills into Roger the need to play and play and play, especially now that it's pretty much a given he won't go deep in every tournament he plays. Of course Roger should know this, but obviously he needs someone to remind him.

Exactly. People seemed to have forgotten that it is normal for a player to lose from time to time, especially against high ranked players.

Don't forget that Roger could have also lost a few matches in the past where he came through in the end. Would have anyone talked about the decline of him when he had lost in Halle 06 against Rochus or in Basel 06 against Scrichapan?

Roger needs matchpraxis right now and it avenged that he didn't played a tournament before Dubai or at least playing doubles there, especially considering the fact that the players field in Dubai this year was outstanding.

The problem is, that playing Sampras right before IW didn't exactly serve him well in the past...

Right now, I just want him to win the exo, that's all.

I just can't bother with these exhos at all. I can only wish Rogi would cut them down, find a coach, and start practicing with REAL opponents again.

Not such a big hole like many try to picture it.

I liked what I saw in the 1st set against Murray, which made me conclude that if he

[1] still has the motivation
[2] plays tournaments regularly, and
[3] dropes the whole 'SuperStar' BS (awards, Sampras exhibitions etc.)

he still has the game to outdo his main rivals.
I thought the forehand was great, at least in the 1st set, and the serve has been great for a long time now, and this combo will always beat players like DJokovic, whose fh and bh are more evenly balanced but neither really huge - as long as he has the fitness and match toughness - or at least I tend to think so.

I know it's a fact that it was bad luck to draw Murray in the 1st round after a long break but he should have expected a tough draw in Dubai anyway. It shouldn't be the issue to be brought up again and again after the loss. The problem lies in his actions, his attitude, his decision and maybe his game. It even may turn out to be a good thing if he realizes what he needs to do now because of this loss.

At any rate, will the Tennis channel air the finals of Dubai? Will there be any airing of Dubai in the US? I haven't heard much about Dubai been broadcasted at all in the US?

Not that I really care unless one of my other favorites makes the final. :p
