Maybe they realized that they need a bigger company like IMG to turn Roger into a global brand and to get him the recognition he truly deserves. I don't think it will change him - if becoming #1 and winning 6 grand slams hasn't I don't think this will.
Yeah, this could be very true. This will give Mirka more free time, and of course Roger always wanted more (private) time with Mirka, didn't he??onm684 said:Rogi will handle work with IMG well.
I think that it's a nice decision for them(Rogi and Mirka) because Mirka was becoming busier recently than before I think.
They can have more their time.
i agree that this will definitely help him establish his name as a global brand and finally get the recognition he deserves. i just always thought the idea of his small team was cute and refreshing, although no doubt stressful. i'm sure it'll all work out for the best, as long as they don't have him making any stupid ads like the sampras onesmirkaland said:I'm sure Roger thought long and hard about this before he made the decision. I hope Roger's team Happy too~!!!!Stevens Point said:I just believe in Roger, and it seems he is happy with his decision. I also hope that Mirka and his team are also happy to work with IMG. I just hope everyone is happy.
You're right about Roger being in a stronger position...and his family is too, they're not naive either since they've managed him now for several years. So I think he knows what he's doing. I'm not concerned at all. I read the press release and it said quite clearly that IMG was being added to HIS team, not the other way around. Let's face it, Roger's just too big for his parents, Mirka and some small communications firm in Switzerland to handle. If he wants to be a global, world-wide brand (which he deserves to be) then he needs help. His lean team can't do that all on their own. But I don't think Mirka will stop being his PA, I'm sure she'll still be booking flights and hotels, cooking for him, making sure he has clean clothes, ect. But maybe she won't have the responsibility of scheduling interviews or dealing with the media side at tournaments. I'm sure that was very stressful. Or maybe that won't change either and IMG will just be responsible for making Roger a bigger name off court and outside of the tennis world. I'm sure a lot of people in the sports biz (not just agents) thoguht Roger was crazy for going it alone because of all the $$ he could've been making that he wasn't. But look, he redefined what it means to have a coach and proved that you don't need a coach with you at every tournament to be successful (out of the 13 tournaments Roger's played this year, Tony wasn't at 8 of them). So maybe he'll redefine the relationship a star has with a big firm like IMG too.Puschkin said:As I wrote on another thread, I think this decision is at least partly motivated by the wish to release Mirka and other members from Roger's (small) team from the considerable task to "manage" him. The timing for this decision is a good one, I feel, as Roger is in a strong position right now, much stronger than he was in 2003 when he departed from IMG. I am rather convinced that Roger will remain in control of things. To me he is not (and never was) the humble and a little naive boy from Switzerland (even if some of you prefer that image) but a young man on his way to become a real global player in the world of sports.
