Last year, Roddick lost that brutally tough QF match to Hewitt, in part thanks to Jorge Diaz, the foolish Chair Umpire who over ruling a shot on the other side of the court at 4-5 in the fifth set! I hope Diaz isn't in the chair tonight.

And it just might be time for Pete Sampras to hand the torch to Andy Roddick! Pete's the greatest! But Roddick is the new kid on the block!

If Roddick's foot injury doesn't play a facor in tonights match, I predict he'll win the match in 4 togh sets. This match and the atmosphere should be electric! :bounce:

P.S. - Don't let this great opprtunity slip through your fingers, Andy! I think Roddick is ready for the big time! :) And if Andy wins tonight, I sure hope he won't have to face Gonzales in the semi's! Gonzales has game! Alot of game!

It would be good for my game if both Andy and Gonzalez made the semis, but I dont feel that will happen...

Andy lost in the quarters last year, because he got beat. Its worth noting that Hewitt wasnt' even at his best that match. One overrule didn't lose Andy the match.

REgardless I'm sorry I won't get to see this matchup :( I hope Pete wins, but if he doesn't, more points for me ;)

It'll be more than interesting to see if Andy can work the crowd against Pete.   Hopefully the audience will remain loyal to Sampras. He's the sentimental favorite for god's sake! Anyway, if Andy works his magic and somehow turns the crowd to his side... :( that'll demoralized Pete and he'll lose in three quick sets, maybe four. (and this is not a bash to Andy, at all,... but let's face it! One of his best assets is his ability to have the people drain the morale out of his opponents.

Go Pete!

the whole crowd was totally for Andy though... did you hear them? That was great... when Pete got double faults, people were actually clapping... a few but they were there. But most of all, Americans respect both the legend and the future so they weren't all that hyped up I-Hate-You kinda crowd... I would be clapping too if I were there and Andy was losing against Pete, even though Pete's awesome! (I'd even do that to Marat and he's my next favorite, next to andy of course)

the crowd wanted to see a real MATCH. New Yorkers don't enjoy watching blow-outs. so they root for the underdog to get him into the match. it's not that they necessarily preferred Andy. if Andy was winning, they would've rooted for Pete. that's just the way we are...:p

I'm here Eggy! I'll come out if I can jump into TC's loving lap! :hearts:

I'm shocked at Roddick's timid play! He showed he's got a long way to go. But kudos to Sampras!

TC made a good point about how the crowd was rooting for a close match, and not necessarily Roddick.

And TC, "that's just the way we are". Are you a New Yorker, too? ;)
