Memphis, TN – The Racquet Club of Memphis is thrilled to welcome one of the most celebrated athletes in the United States, Andy Roddick, back to the Morgan Keegan Stadium.

The #1-ranked American player finished 2007 in the Top 10 for the sixth straight season, won an ATP title for the seventh consecutive year, and led the United States to its first Davis Cup title since 1995. He was the runner-up in Memphis last year against eventual champion Tommy Haas, defeating Andy Murray, Yen-Hsun Lu, Benjamin Becker, and Thomas Johansson along the way.

Andy brings 23 career titles with him, including the U.S. Open Grand Slam title in 2003. He won the Memphis event in 2002 and makes his 8th consecutive appearance at The Racquet Club to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His serves are legendary, and he’s ranked among the Top 10 in five of six serving categories: #2 in first serve points won (80%), service games won (91%) and second serve points won (57%); #3 in aces (749), and #10 in break points saved (65%).

The tournament also announces that a qualifying wild card is being given to the new teenage sensation Kei Nishikori who became the first Japanese ATP title winner in almost 16 years when he stunned top seed James Blake last week in the final of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships. Playing just his sixth ATP tournament, Nishikori rallied from a set down to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Nishikori, who is 18 years old, is the youngest player to win an ATP title since Lleyton Hewitt (16 years, 10 months, 18 days) in Adelaide on January 11, 1998. Additionally, he is the first Japanese ATP singles titlist since Shuzo Matsuoka won Seoul in April 1992.

Tickets are on sale now by calling 901.765.4401. Don’t miss this opportunity to see Tommy Haas, James Blake, Marat Safin, Lindsay Davenport, and Venus Williams in person at The Racquet Club of Memphis. These world-class men and women players show their “love” by returning to Memphis in support of tennis and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. You can help make a difference in the lives of the children at St. Jude. Visit our websites at rmkchampionships.com or cellularsouthcup.com.

So he's getting a WC, right? Why didn't he just enter in the first place?

I doubt he'll play Dubai now.

Isn't he scheduled to play Dubai? How is he going to be prepared for it if he plays Memphis?

He did not enter Memphis because of his plan to play Dubai. I still believe that he will play both, especially since Dubai is throwing so much cash at him.

This makes sense if Andy withdraws from Dubai, otherwise it is stupid playing three weeks in a row before IW and Miami.

He knows he'll lose early in Dubai so he wants to get more points.

It's all Roddick fault, if he didn't get the last WC, they would have invited Kei I guess.
They should have waited the result of their match tonight. And give a MD WC to Nishikori if he wins and a WC for qualies to Roddick.

A top 10 player would never get a wild card to qualies Renaud. Especially if it's Andy and the tourny is in the US. :p

Come on, do you expect ATP tournament organizers to think?

Darn that super secret tour calendar, why can't they post it somewhere public?
