I've just seen Rod's first public utterance about the result. Apparently he was going to hand Djokovic the trophy but they hastily rescheduled when the writing was on the wall. Rod seems to be rubbing in Djokovic's defeat here, and making a thinly veiled dig to him and maybe the rest of the big three by implication: "The quest continues". "One of the greatest" lol @Johnny Groove :

Imagine how hard it is having to sit there and not scream for joy when he gets beaten.

Why do you think Sampras wore dark shades when Federer beat Roddick 16-14 to break his record?

It was to hide his 'Awww f...k' eyes & face when he did it.
In one sense we jest, but in another sense it's absolutely true. Who honestly wants to sit there with a camera in their face and watch someone break their record? Nobody, that's who. So why do they keep wheeling these people out and make them lie to the cameras?

Honestly, let the old man be. Not everything is mind games. Sure, the guy probably did not want his record matched, but he is not some genius looking to destroy Djoker or the big 3.
Do you follow Rod? He has a lot of form for this sort of stuff. He makes MTF trolls look slack.

Wonder if Rodpa Grandpa really thinks it is even possible to do 2 CYGSes in the current era. Tennis is a different ball game now.
He would think two an underachievement in this era.

Do you think Rod Laver really does his own twitter - maybe it was his assistant? Still he keeps his record - so was probably not too sad at the result.

Still if 3 of the slams were on grass - as in 1969 - Novak would probably have won all 4 this year!

Nope grass competition would then be much tougher and Djoker would've only won one - on clay.

The comparison with Laver is absurd.

How many people in the stand for the last final? 300?

Was it a man and his dog doing the press conference too?!
It's all relative. Look at the papers and the TV from the time. All available coverage is CYGS this CYGS that. The same in 1970 with Court. Djoker had it as easy as could have wished this year with non event Wimbledon and all the talk about WTA Fernandez/Radacanu runs and final. It only really ramped up today, and he folded like a cheap tent. We have to ask ourselves about his mental strength: the ones he really wanted in his career were Olympic singles and CYGS - we know what happened. It's 40-15 revisited.
