I'm 99% that David and Tommy are playing together in Cincy in order to prepare the play-offs against Italy.
JCF and Rafa will probably play singles with Tommy as a doubles especialist. I think these 3 will be in Italy for sure.
And the 4th ... i think David deserves to play in the team after his excellent season, and has some doubels titles.

And they just have beaten one of the top teams, Etlis/Rodriguez 64 67 61 :D

I will be happy enough if I have the chance to see Tommy on Davis Cup squad again this year :p
Same goes for Feliciano he's one of the best in fast courts :)

I don't see how playing on hard courts would be preparation for them to play together on clay for Davis Cup. Plus, Tommy has played doubles with pretty much everyone Spanish at some point or another.. He played doubles with Rafa last week in Montreal... a much more likely DC team in my opinion. Plus the only reason Tommy is playing with David here is because Rafa didn't want to. They were originally going to play together here too.

I don't think Rafa will play doubles...he'll just focus on singles and they'll put others into the doubles eg robredo and ferrer

Let´s see, imo Nadal will outgun Seppi in 3 sets on Friday and will likely play next day also.

I think Robredo-Ferrer in Cincy is a trial for Davis Cup.

The best doubles player in Spain nowadays is Nadal, without no doubt

I think the spanish captains has a very big dilemma about if Nadal should play only singles or also doubles but with the worry of Nadal's physical condition for sunday matches..

The two best doubles players in Spain according to the results are Nadal and Ferrer, even they were gonna play together in Umag because Arrese asked them to play together , and that was gonna be another trial for Davis Cup but Nadal pulled out ..... I look forward to watching a doubles composed of Rafa and David , i think they can be a very good couple .

I have never liked a lot the doubles Rafa&Tommy because i had the feeling they were two good " singles " players playing together a doubles match and not a real team playing coordinated ..

In my opinion Rafa plays more comfortable with Feliciano and Verdasco than with Robredo , although i always prefer Verdasco as partner and not Feli because he's a very lazy player, apathetic and it has to be very hard to play with him when he has his typical " bad " day when showing he would be more happy being in a beach ..

I'm among the persons who think the best potential double in Spain is Nadal-Verdasco.

I guess the four picks will be : Nadal, Robredo , Ferrero , Ferrer . I'm not sure that Kitzbuhel final will be enough for Vedascado gets to take a spot in the DC team against Italy....Maybe if Ferrero has a weeding that weekend ( a very likely fact  ) Verdasco will have his oportunity ...

And the elected doubles would be Nadal-Robredo with a lot of chances and less for Nadal-Ferrer.

I thought JCF is not playing DC this year...? @@
Moya decided to pull of spanish davis team during this year , but Ferrero not..

In the first Davis cup tie this year against Slovak Republic , Ferrero prefered to prepare Indian Wells and Miami instead of playing that tie, showing his lack of commitment with spanish team.

ah yes I remember now - in a Marca article at the time he said he won't play the Slovak Republic tie to prepare for IW & Miami and get his ranking up (given his form at the time it's questionable whether he would play singles anyway - let's not go there), but he didn't rule out future ties provided that Spain wins the first round.... hmmm....

when is spain's davis cup matches against italy? *sorry i'm too lazy to go look it up*

Ferrero and Robredo, both showed a lack of commitment as i said before.

They knew it was a very awkward tie to play in Slovak Republic on a indoor carpet, to play in a tie with very few chances to win and they egoisticly thought it was more easy and comfortable to stay at home preparing american masters series while the four " dumbs " Nadal , Feli , Verdasco and Costa were grinnig and bear it on the Slovak supersonic court .

If i was spanish captains, Ferrero and Robredo would be several ties penalized without being among the elected players..

For the record, Robredo WAS just coming back from a shoulder injury at the time. I believe he was even still injured, so penalizing him for not wanting to further a shoulder injury is a little ridiculous.
