I am not surprised that Boredo is one of the alternates, but look at the players above Chela that decided against going.

Nalbandian isn't there and there are a lot of players who decided not to go to Shanghai.

Murray, Andy (GBR)
Haas, Tommy (GER)
Blake, James (USA)
Berdych, Tomas (CZE)
Baghdatis, Marcos (CYP)
Moya, Carlos (ESP)
Ljubicic, Ivan (CRO)
Canas, Guillermo (ARG)
Youzhny, Mikhail (RUS)
Chela, Juan Ignacio (ARG)

Murray : Going to play the Count from Sesame Street in Christmas pantos.

Haas: I think he said he couldn't be bothered going.

Blake: Is in training for chess events and he can be elevated to a Grandmaster before the season is out. Though DC is more likely.

Berdych: Basically wants to go home and bang Lucie and work on his multi dimensional game.

Moya: Preparing to hang out in Argentina with Lobo and work on the other half of the ladies in Buenos Aires.

Ljubo: Doing shampoo ads and working on his game.

Canas : Needs a break and would be fodder at the moment and Youzhny preparing for DC.

Murray: Throwing darts at a giant Brad Gilbert photo.
Haas: Reading books on healthy diets for competitive sportsmen.
Blake: Preparing the mannual on point construction and thinking on a tennis court, a joint effort with Calleri, Berdych and Tursunov.
Berdych: Carefully watching videos of his efforts against Simon at the AO 2006 and Russell at IW this year.
Marcos: Praying for the salvation of his tennis soul in a monastery somewhere in Cyprus.
Ljubo: Taking classes on real-estate management for his career after tennis.

Baghdatis has been only allowed limited rations of moussaka and gyros as he gears to come back more muscular than Nadal.

I thought Moyini was dating some spanish model? But of course that doesn't have to mean much, considering it's the ATP tours offical gigolo that we're talking about.

But seriously, there's millions of people out there who for some reason are bald.. give Ljubo a break already.

Baghdatis is using the off season to find the solution.

Because they all want to keep their dignity, and not look like knobs sitting on the sidelines waiting for an injury, however some players getting injured, I would actually like.

Looks like no one except Robredo and Chela needs extra 50K for siting on the bench and siteseing Shangai. :cuckoo:

Ill rather be training and improving my game, then walking around in a country with some such a bullshit regime, and winning 50K that is coming from a currency that seems to be falling as fast as you can say RobredoandChelaaretwoclowns.

Actually they are going to get paid in $ not YUANS, and its like 10 days waste of time tops. Most of the players in ATP tour are going to use this time of the year for well deserved vacation and relaxation, I doubt they we will be working hard on form improvement when there is almost 2 months till next tournament.
