A surprise Dolgo isn't here.

A surprise Dolgo isn't here.
Extremely odd given his success here last year and the weakness of the field.

Really 4 WC in a draw of 32? Last year was 3...
This year is the same like previous edition, Rio Open has 4 WC available each time, but in 2014 they did not use one of them, so next player from Alternate list went IN. The same situation might happen this time, as this 4th WC would have to be commitment player. I can't see anyone...

2) Singles – ATP World Tour 500
An additional Wild Card is awarded to the tournament with the following restrictions.
a) The Wild Card must be named no later than 12 Noon, Eastern Time, USA on the Friday before the event week; and
b) The player must be an A+ player as designated by that event’s region.
c) If the tournament does not use the additional Wild Card by the deadline then the position in the main draw goes to the next eligible player on the entry list.
Premier Player Group.
Players ranked as a year-end top 30 player (commitment players) are eligible to be selected in the premier player group for purposes of fulfilling the restriction on who is eligible to be named as an additional Wild Card at an ATP World Tour 500 event. The size of the premier player group shall be six (6) players plus two (2) alternates selected as follows:

Six (6) players shall be selected as “regional” premier players (A+) by each of the three (3) regions (Americas, European and International). Each region shall also designate two (2) alternates as A1 and A2. The regional CEO’s shall solicit input from their respective events to determine the six (6) regional selections, plus alternates. These six (6) players and the two (2) alternates shall be presented to the Board at the final Board meeting of the previous year for approval.

In the event that an A+ player becomes injured or otherwise is not able to compete for an extended period of time, as specified below, he will be replaced by the A1 player designated by the region.

The same procedure will be followed in the event that a second player needs to be replaced as determined below.

If additional A+ players are required and the designated A1 and A2 players have already been promoted or are otherwise not available, then the A+ replacement player will be the next highest ranked player on the most current Emirates ATP Rankings.
EDIT: The only commitment players (Top30 at the end of 2014 season) from Americas are: Raonic, Isner, Mayer and Cuevas. Raonic signed for Marseille 250, Isner for Delray Beach 250, and both Mayer and Cuevas are direct acceptances in Rio 500. So, for me it looks like 4th WC can't be used this year as well, so Haider-Maurer and Gonzalez should be moved into MD (if there will be no SE, but only Rotterdam 500 matters, looks like shouldn't be anyone lowly ranked playing in semifinals in The Netherlands)

Does really only Rotterdam matter? What about Sao Paolo ? Just asking.

Because if I remember correctly, Raonic received SE into Memphis (which was 500 at the time) after reaching San Jose semis (eventually won that tournie).
Re: Rio de Janeiro Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated January 7, 2015)

From Rulebook:

A Qualified event for special exempt to an ATP World Tour 500 tournament is the singles event of another ATP World Tour 500, ATP World Tour Masters 1000 or Grand Slam tournament.

I wonder, Dzumhur will most definitely play qualies here, could he tank today's quarters in Santo Domingo? Its a long trip from Santo Domingo to Rio, almost 5500 km, its a six hour flight, he might go day or two earlier to get some practice time and get use to conditions.

He signed for Morelos Challenger, so I don't think so.

Firstly, he plays second round today, secondly - theoreticaly he can, but he won't do that, this challenger is a chance for some good points for Damir, much better than Rio.

Hello everyone,

this is my first post and I am glad that I am part of this community :worship:! It is true that Dzumhur can make a deep run here, but what the heck he will do next week. He will lose rhythm, because he is signed for Buenos Aires and will have to stick around in South America. Moreover the money for reaching the second round in Rio are almost three times than the title in Santo Domingo. In the Dominican Republic the event is + hospitality, so Damir will pay only for his ticket. If Cuevas make deep run in Sao Paulo and Damir is not put in the quarter of Rafa or Ferrer he can go all the way to the quarter finals in my opinion, where the money and the points are crucial for the season. Here the field looks weakest from all ATP500 clay court events and most of the players are still searching their best form. To stay in Santo Domingo is not guaranteed the title – Elias, Melzer, Zeballos are looking solid enough to challenge him. Damir has a lot of think about it…

Trust me, it's not about the money, only points matter, if you're around Top 100 and you believe you have good chance for 90 points, then you don't think about anything else. Deliberate loss in Santo Domingo means he would have to reach quarterfinal in Rio to have more points than for winning SD, it's equal to 4 matches against much more difficult opponents. What's easier? For me, wins against Trinker, Jarry, Zeballos and Elias...

Yes, in situations like this, you've just got to try to win the tournament you are currently playing. And then after that, see what's going on
